The Hawaiʻi Food bank started in 1983, when the creator John White had a vision of a local Food Bank. With the help of his good friend Ron Keith, they opened up a small warehouse in Sand Island that would become the first Hawaiʻi Foodbank. Their first year working, they had acquired 380,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables to distribute. Since then, the business has grown a lot, and is distributing more than 14 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables every year. They also ship out foods to Kauaʻi, and Hawaiʻi and Maui.
Hawaii Foodbank, through its network of island food banks and their local food pantries and meal programs, provides food assistance to more than 123,000 households encompassing 287,000 Islanders. 22 percent of households served by the Hawaii Foodbank network have at least one member that has served in the military. 35 percent of client households have a child under 18 and/or a senior member 60 years or older. A majority of Hawaii Foodbank network agencies (59 percent) are faith-based or located in a religious institution.
Hawaii Foodbank provides for approximately 200 charitable agencies, which represent 289 feeding programs across Oʻahu. These charitable agencies provide food assistance for people with low income, the elderly, children and the homeless. It is needed because making a living in Hawaii is hard. Sometimes, people just need that extra boost to get them through the week, month, or year. The Hawaii Foodbank is great because it provides them with food so that can be the least of their worries. Our ultimate goal is to help out with people living in poverty. The Hawaii Foodbank is a great resource for us because they help us reach our goal. By helping them sort and helping to distribute goods, it’ll help our goal out as well as theirs.

How does economic theories like Capitalism & Communism impact or cause global issues like poverty?
Capitalism has systems where the wealth is distributed unevenly, and property is privately owned. Communism is the opposite where things are kept fair and the state owns the land. This can cause global issues such as poverty because it shows how divided the Capitalists are, and how communism contributes to the community rather than themselves.
Which economic idea is better: communism or capitalism?
Capitalism is better because your success in society is based on how much work, time, and effort you are willing to put in, compared to communism where no matter what you do everyone is given the same amount of everything. Capitalism gives an incentive to further the economy and look for new opportunities of success while communism has no benefit on trying to better the community and yourself. Who would want to work twice as hard as someone else but get payed and fed the exact same amount as the other person who may not even be doing anything at all.
Does Capitalism still work? Does Capitalism cause poverty? Or social injustice?
Yes, Capitalism still works. I think it’s arguably the best system for a successful country. Capitalism does not cause poverty. People do. Capitalism encourages people to start their own businesses and provide jobs for other people. If a person works hard and invests they can escape poverty. That is what is so beautiful about Capitalism. I do think it causes some social injustice because people in the middle class or upper class may look down upon the lower class. They might see them as unequals. Besides social injustice I think Capitalism is the one of the best government systems for a successful and happy country.
Who is / what is Karl Marx economic theory & what did he say about capitalism?
Capitalists are the business owners who organize the process of production and who own the means of production such as factories, tools and raw material, and who are also entitled to any and all profits. The other, much larger class is composed of labor. Laborers do not own or have any claim to the means of production, the finished products they work on, or any of the profits generated from sales of those products. Rather, labor works only in return for a money wage. Marx argued that because of this uneven arrangement, capitalists exploit workers.
As a result of World Wars I & II, how did the Cold War period and a renewed focus on capitalism & corporate businesses perhaps contribute & set up your particular global issue?
We think poverty was always there, but the Cold War forced some families to probably live in poverty, but now because of Capitalism it’s easier to get out of poverty.

One positive thing about this article is that Johan Galtung will increase and prove his reliability and accuracy in his estimations allowing a continuation of futurism. Also furthermore it will show that the study of human interactions and predictions are useful and not just a shot in the dark with guesses and luck.
A negative thing about this is that Hawaii would go into a famine. If the US collapses we don’t get all of our imported food. Because imported food counts for 90% of our food source Hawaii would turn into a battle ground for food. Thousands of people would die because of a sudden drop in food supply.

Founded in 1945 on October 24th by the U.S. , France , and India; the United Nations is an international government organization. The organization was tasked upon its founding with the goal to maintain international peace, safety and security. Alongside the initial responsibilities of the UN, new goals have been added on top including developing more friendly relations, achieve international cooperation, and to act as a center of harmonization for the actions of nations.
Our 1st goal is to help out at least 10 people, whether it be donating goods to help support the people or by sorting goods for distribution. This would help the betterment of humanity. Another goal is to go to local food drives to help get more goods for people who need it. Our last goal is to make Hawai’i eventually poverty free, even though it will take more than the three of us and a long time to complete.
Our goal was to help out people who are in poverty, even if it meant just donating or helping sort goods for the people. It connects to our topic because the big idea is poverty. Who wants to live in poverty? No one, but it is a real reality that is alive today. But, if people continue on helping people, by 2030 the rates of poverty would go down drastically.

Haiti is a country that is deeply affected by hunger. Haiti is on the top 10 list of hungriest countries according to the Global Hunger Index. Half United is a group that is trying to help school kids hunger in haiti. School kids would sometimes only eat at school and the school could only feed them every other day. Their goal is to install ovens throughout schools in haiti so they can bake bread for the children. So far they installed multiple ovens across haiti’s schools and are giving children the nourishment they need for class.
Off the top of our heads, a big effect that modern warfare has on our topic is exactly our topic: poverty. When countries and places go to war, the aftermath left behind is often a mess. It can leave a family houseless and soon living in poverty. Another effect is that modern warfare has is it sends a negative message to other areas, creating a sort of divide between them.
The history of military influence in Hawaii began just around the start of the 20th century when America started to establish power and bases on the islands. Fort shafter built from 1905-1907 was the first military based building which was constructed by America and was shortly followed by the construction of Pearl Harbor in 1908 and expanded upon in 1915. Now in the current year there are military bases and buildings all across Hawaii and they serve as a crucial part of Pacific Ocean control.
While what the military does is very honorable and courageous, the media shows only the good side of the military, but hides all the bad things. They address only the fixable problems in the media, but leave out the unfixable problems.
January 17th, 1893 was the day that the U.S military overthrew the hawaiian kingdom. In 1959, the US declared Hawaii as its 50th state.
The presence of military and it’s needs have affected a lot of things related to poverty. The amount of military presence can shift the economy of the land it’s moving into. This can cause poverty through fluctuating prices and an influx of jobs.
