We had the topic of drugs but we didnʻt think it was a great idea to go to a rehab because itʻs too dangerous. So, we did some research for a while and came to the conclusion that most of the people who do drugs were in poverty. We planned to go to the YMCA on the big island and help with little children who donʻt have their parents around or are in poverty. During the last day of class in Quarter 2, we called the YMCA on the big island and asked if they had any opportunities for us to work as volunteers with little kids. She said that she would call her manager and get back to us, and then she didnʻt call us back. We ended up not doing that because my two group members live on Big Island but I do not, and my dad would not let me leave the island by myself. Both of them stayed home for the entire winter break so we couldnʻt get any community service done. Although, my understanding of poverty and other UN issues of humanity IS improving as well as my connection and application of leadership skills are expanding.
