This project is important to helping our local and global community because we are all people, and we deserve more than just living on out on the streets. By addressing the situation, and taking action, we can hopefully end the problem and get everyone off the streets. By is important for me to be learning these skills because it could be a potential contribution to the Lāhui. We are all people living in America, and if we want to see it great again, we need to act upon the problem.
So far, I haven't really had the chance to execute any leadership skill. We haven't really put out plan into action yet so there isn't much that I was able to do. When I visited Japan and the Mainland, I saw tons of homeless people and it really hit home. Where I live, in Wahiawā, there are dozens of homeless people who live out on the streets and in the forest. There are people who help the issue in my community by stopping to give them food or money. I need to start paying more attention to my surroundings in order for me to be a progressive action-researcher. Over the break, we planned to brainstorm ideas on what to donate. We also planned on gathering those supplies and getting them ready to give out. We actually got that done. We plan on giving out clothes, canned food, stuffed animals, soap. We didnʻt really have any new changes since the last update. Our next three steps are to 1. call multiple organizations and see if their available to donate. 2. build upon each others donations that we collected before. 3. meet with other group members at least once and discuss plans for next month. Our topic is helping the homeless. It is important to do an action research project because that way we can physically see the change. Our group consists of four people: Me, Pu'uwai, Devin, and Joshua. We plan to call multiple homeless shelters to try and see if we are able to come out there and hand out our blessing bags. So far, the challenging part of this project was figuring out what our topic was. This was challenging because we were unsure of what kind of causes were both common here in Hawaii and Europe. I hope to learn more about the homeless community. I also hope to make an impact on someones life. I will be asking for help from my grandmother. She used to live out in the Waianae Boat Harbor so she's in touch with the people who live in there.
