Agricultural Revolution SHIFT to Industrial RevolutionThe ongoing flux of the Indutrial age continues to impact our “challenge” of hunger because prices continue to rise and the social divide between the middle class and the high class continues to grow. With the price of food continueing to rise, it puts people in a bad spot because they canʻt pay for it. To make it worse, in this time and day majority of people do not know how to grow and hunt their own food. In addition, the social divide continues to expand because the people that donʻt have to face this challenge choose to not help the ones who do. Some of those people in the high class look at the people with this problem in a negative way and therefore do not help them. |
The shift from the Agricultural Revolution to the Industrial Revolution created Hunger in my ancient empire because crop production is beginning to fail due to weather. Therefore, the prices of crops is skyrocketing, causing the African people to be pushed back a step in Industrial Revolution. As more and more crop failures occur, the higher the price crops are becoming, resulting in families starving because food is too expensive. The population of Hunger and starvation begin to increase rapidly all across Africa. Soon enough the hunger and starvation will convert to death. This impacts Hunger in its local version of Hawaii nei. For instance, the prices of food is beginning to increase due to Hawaii’s location. As a way to make up money for the imported food from the mainland, stores up the price on their consumables. It’s beginning to become more difficult for less fortunate families to maintain a lifestyle of paying bills along with providing for their family. The stress soon becomes overwhelming and leads families to hunger and poverty. |

Looking at modern America and Modern Hawaiʻi, you can see a similar situation today in Hawaiʻi. The Hawaiian people are protecting their beloved Mauna and demanding rights. Governor Ige wants to build a telescope as big as a football stadium on sacred hawaiian land. However, hawaiians have come together to help stop this action by blocking the only way up to the mauna. They have been blocking it for over 100 days now.

The factors that incite a revolution is the political, social and economical oppression. There could be an economic crisis within the government because of the current president/leader. There could also be years of bad harvests and harsh taxation. This can cause citizens to become angered and attempt to retaliate against their leaders. We see these factors appearing in America Today. Specifically, many people and US citizens are becoming angered towards Donald Trump due to his Political and Social Oppression. He is causing many problems in society and with other Countries that citizens are voting to impeach him. An example for Hawaii is the overthrow. Foreigners attempted to overthrow the hawaiian kingdom and succeeded illegally. The people of Hawaii became mad and tried to strike back .
Industrial revolution plays a part in perpetuating the problem in my Kahiau Project challenge because of the law of supply. As the quality of certain things began to improve, the quantity or expense increased. As coal improved both quality and quantity, food did as well. Food is becoming more expensive because the improvement of it’s quality. It is getting more difficult to access and purchase food because of the expense it is at. Adam is the one who discovered and created the law of supply .
ʻĀina, War, Nations and Native Identities
The aspects of aina that are being bartered, fought over, and used as collateral during the WW1, WW2 and Cold War periods is the concept of economical ideas. Countries such as Vietnam and Korea started a civil war. The N Vietnam fought their way to convert S Vietnam into a communism government system. This event is also similar to what occurred in Korea. N Korea attempted to take over S Korea and convert them to a communism government system. In addition, The U.S used Hawaii, Micronesia, and other lands located throughout the Pacific as a place to execute their military procedures. Not only did they practice their military exercises, but they also took many resources. This isnʻt considered as pono leadership because many suffer as a result to someoneʻs will.
As a result of these world wars, there are some struggles between national and native identities. One of these native struggles is the people who live or lived in the Marshall islands. The reason why these people struggle as a result of world wars is because the islands were used as a practice nuclear bombing site for the United States. Even though the islands were inhabited. As results to these bombings, the native people were exposed to nuclear radiation which caused defects and birth defects to everyone who was exposed. In response to this bad envirnment a lot of the native people moved to other places to live such as Hawaiʻi. Although the people are welcomed here, a lot of them came not used to the US way of life and therefore basically moved into poverty. Our specific Kahiau Project aims to resolve this problem is to support these people in poverty with providing food so that they do not have to worry about starving. This then allows them to worry about other problems with more energy.

WIth the rise and fall of nations, the ʻaina is impacted in a fairly negative way. As more wars occur, the need for new and improved technology also increases. For example, the development of the Atomic Bomb impacted native people more than it did for the betterment. In order to develop this major part of technology, there had to be test runs and all those things you do to make sure your product was running perfectly, and if it needed improvements. The atomic bomb took away the home to many at Bikini atoll. Afterwards, the debris can be highly infectious. So, it might have been good for the people of the country, however it negatively impacted native peoples homeland.
During this Covid 19 envirnment, the ideological struggle during the Cold War continues to impact, challenge and change our kānaka in Hawaiʻi because people are relying right now on the government that they will provide the money for everyone and also the resources such as food, water, and houshold needs. This is different for us as Hawaiians because our kupuna used to rely on eachother and themselves instead of others. The same is said for native poeple around the United states as well. Some solutions that would benefit Hawaiʻi after this struggle with Covid 19 is for people to buy more home grown food instead of shipped in food. Also, people will start to grow their own food so that they do not have to go to the store to buy some. People will begin to make sure they can provide for themselves without relying on the government to provide for us.
