I really enjoyed doing this project. I felt like a developed more as a person and learned a lot about giving back to your community. I remember seeing how happy they were to be getting supplies and new socks. I also remember their kindness and how they all said thank you. Some of them were suspicious but I did not care because of how good it felt to give back to my community. I also saw other people watching me which was a good thing too because I could tell they were inspired too.
One pattern that I saw was how each person was happy and how each person always said thank you at least twice. They kept smiling and I could tell that I made a big impact in their life. I learned about different perspectives on homeless people during this project. I found that some people think that there is no point in helping the homeless. I also found that people think homeless people should be our top priority. We often see the idea that homeless people are useless and trash and we can not do anything about it. Well I feel that now people that saw us giving to them will now have a different perspective on homeless people. Hopefully, they will know that they can make a difference. I predicted in the beginning that the homeless people would be hostile and not accept our "goodie bags." However all of them were very kind and gladly accepted them. I was completely wrong. It is important in my opinion to plan long term. It helps you prepare and it sets deadlines for you enabling you to make sure you get things done. One thing to make it better for us would have been the communication. We probably should have set up a group text chat or something to communicate with each other better instead of just planning in class. Nevertheless, I enjoyed doing this and it truly did make me a better person.

Our project is aligned with global citizenship because we will inspire people to do more for their community. We will show everyone that you should step up and give back to your communities. We will probably post our video on youtube to share it with the world. When we go to Kakaako and actually give them the goodie bags, everyone driving by and everyone around will see it and be inspired to do a selfless act themselves. For me I think it is very important to give to those who need it. We have a huge homelessness problem in Hawaiʻi and I think that this is one step to solving it. The government might even see us and start to fund towards helping this problem.
Me and my group have still been collecting supplies. However, this is is and we have not actually gone out to do the act of giving out the "goodie bags."
Me and my group have collected a lot of supplies. We did originally change our plan of collecting items from homerooms to just getting the items ourselves. Besides that all we have to do is get all our materials together and actually go and do the project.
For this week I have discussed with my parents about what we are doing. Me and my group have not been really doing that much work on this project but I still feel like we will be prepared enough. I feel that this project will still come out very well. It is looking promising now.
This week we have finalized where we are going to be passing out the goodie bags, Kakaako. I have also gone to walmart and looked at a couple of supplies like socks and toothbrushes.
Independent December Progress:
I worked on a powerpoint going over everything that we will be doing and what we are doing. I also planned where exactly we are going ot pass out the goodie bags. Hello! I am Brenton Sasaoka. I am only 15. I am in 10th grade, a sophmore at Kamehameha Schools Kapālama. I am in Band and I will be trying out for baseball. I ran in cross country for the school. I really enjoy running and hope to run for the schools track team too. I also enjoy playing video games and hanging out with my friends in my free time. I like to help people that need it and those that do not either. I like giving back to the world for all that it has done for me. I hope that this project really impacts the community and the world so that they can give back as well.
