We are participating in a valley clean up in Palolo. This will impact the ocean because the water flows from the mountains to the ocean, so by cleaning up this valley it will help get to the trash before it enters the water. This organization is 808cleanups.org and is held on May 7, 2017 . We will be removing debris that ultimately pollutes our beaches and reef.

This project has motivated me to participate in something that I care about and making a difference. This has helped me to clearly see the concept of fulfilling my responsibility as a Global Citizen and taking action. I learned that the research process and organizing this project is not easy. A lot of perspectives are similar in wanting to keep beaches clean and we have the same goals that want to be achieved. In the beginning of this project it was easy to come up with the overall idea of taking care of marine life and taking care of beaches. But as this project progressed it was different than how i expected because itʻs much harder trying to organize times and days with everyoneʻs busy schedules and where we live. It is very important for a long term plan for action because itʻs not something you can do right on the spot. You have to gather information and plan and then take action. We were successful in following through with our overall idea that we wanted to achieve which was to clean up beaches. Something different we couldʻve done to make it better was planning things earlier. Our Kahiau Project is aligned with being a global citizen because as a global citizen it is our responsibility to participate in taking care of our world. To be a global citizen of the world it means to take action. By doing this Kahiau Project I feel like it is fulfilling my part in contributing to make a difference in the community. To resolve problems in the community for example, dirty beaches which can affect wildlife, it starts off with us. I think that this project was a great starting point to inspire us to want to take action for things we are passionate about, and living on an island I am passionate about taking care of our waters. In 2017, this Kahiau project will hopefully show others that itʻs not hard to just throw away your trash into a trashcan instead of leaving it. It will also prove to the community that taking care of the ocean should be recognized because it is an important issue to be taken care of.
We are joining an organization called Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii and want to participate in one of their events
We are collaborating with another group in another period because we both share strong opinions on taking care of wildlife and our beaches. We have been discussing and our set date to take action is Saturday May 6, 2017 from 10-3. It was hard coming up with a date and we donʻt know if its finalized yet because we all have different schedules but hopefully this pulls through.
Spring break is over and we all have gone to the beach at least once over the break and noticed how beautiful it is to take care of the wildlife. The beach is such a common place where we like to go here on an island and we know it is important to take care of it. We have been discussing and we want our beach clean-up to have a faster impact on the community especially those who enjoy the warm sand, hot rays of the sun, and clear refreshing waters without litter everywhere. The ocean is an important place and was especially to the Hawaiians; it was a source of food. By taking care of the ocean we feel like it is perpetuating our culture and doing our responsibility. Hopefully this project will inspire others to take notice of the beautiful ocean that surrounds our island and take care of it.
