I feel that the scientific advancements that were made during World War 1 & 2 changed the course of humanity forever. The cost of humanity that these two wars brought were very substantial. The need to improve technology that played a part of these wars caused many problems to become allowed in the present. World War 2 is known for people riding in on horses in the beginning of the war to people flying out in planes at the end of the war. With this change of pace it had allowed many countries with a lot of power to benefit from this and learn how to implement it into their technology. Nowadays we have all these fighter jets/helicopters and giant tanks that can cause mass destruction or that can be used for power. All I can say is that even though nations have gained power from these new technologies, it's scary to think of what other possibilities can rise from these new powers.
These advancements continue to impact our community because it continues to change how we live on our own land. Hawaiʻi used to be such a beautiful place and with this influence of new technology from the U.S. our islands can no longer go back to how they used to be. As a current kanaka of this land, the cost that my people had to pay for the "society" was very detrimental. We as Hawaiians lost many years and generations of culture. When the Hawaiian language was banned, many native Hawaiian speakers had to find ways to preserve the language in hopes of it not being lost. Which worked but at what cost. Many modern day Hawaiians don't even know how to speak the language, maybe a few Hawaiian words here and there but we lost the ability to be raised up in our language. There are some lucky few who get to go to Hawaiian Emergence schools, but the majority of Hawaiians ended up going to regular schools and have to find their own ways to learn their own culture. So to me, the cost that Hawaiians had to pay changed the course of the newer generations of Hawaiians forever.

The important factors that could set up a nation for an act of war and social revolution are bad economy and poverty. When humans aren’t satisfied it causes them to act upon emotions and feelings. When a place has a bad economy it can throw off the balance to the people. Which makes them mad. When poverty is added to this then it causes people to also act upon emotions. People are more likely to do things like a riot or protest when things like this occur. When it comes to Hawaiʻi and the idea of Environmental Issues it can tie into poverty and a bad economy. There are a lot of people in Hawaiʻi that live in poverty which sometimes causes those people to steal and break stuff, which can be bad for the environment. The economy in Hawaiʻi isn’t so bad but the way it currently is not so well.
I believe that the world did but didn’t learn a lesson from the War to End All Wars. Also known as The Great War it is known for being the war that lost or wounded so many soldiers. I think that it influenced leaders and the people that war is not the answer and that it only causes more problems than solving them. But Modern Warfare is still a thing that is happening and many people are still losing their lives. Along with New Technology that further improves warfare, the problem is not going to be solved. As a result of the Great War, different countries have come up with ways to improve their country’s power. One example is the U.S taking over the Hawaiʻi islands. It’s in such a perfect spot in the ocean and if any military power is needed Hawaiʻi has some of it. It ties into my Kahiau Project because within the introduction of the U.S. to the islands, many environmental issues have propped up. Some are the introduction of all these materials that pollute the land and the Earth itself.
I do agree that the world is indeed a victim of Malthusian Flux. With the constant growth of the human race taking control of the planet, New Energies and New Resources become more needed. With more humans, more of these things are needed to be produced. When it runs low or on the verge of running out, it becomes a hassle to keep it in business. It sometimes can put humans in dangerous spots, food shortages, starvation, many things like that. There’s been commercial’s that talk about the starving children around the world. Then businesses that get affected by this happens on a globalization scale. In some places, this seems to become a Normalization. Akaike, H., et al. “Malthusian Pressures: Empirical Evidence from a Frontier Economy.” Journal of Population Research, Springer Netherlands, 1 Jan. 1974, link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12546-015-9153-9. “‘The War to End All Wars.’” Mental Floss, 16 Aug. 2014, www.mentalfloss.com/article/58411/wwi-centennial-war-end-all-wars. Skills that would help is being able to empower the people and actually make them want to make a change instead of forcing the change onto them. Knowing how people think and understanding how they comprehend things is a great way to motivate movements and make the world a better place. People want someone that they know they can trust and understand so there is no confusion. With someone that understands people’s thoughts and acts upon them, it really helps. A leader that can bond with the people and work with them is a start to a great leader.
My leadership growth was impacted the most through emotion. I say this because emotion can help drive thoughts. If thinking in the correct mindset it can help make a better decision. In a bad mood can affect how someone is thinking. I was affected by my intrinsic motivation to graduate from this school and to graduate along with my peers. Mr. Lee has helped me understand this with his saying, “Make it to the stage, see yourself on that stage getting your high school diploma.” I don’t want to fall behind so I will try my best to keep up.
What would've been planned for the Community Service was to go and pick up trash at Kalihi Valley. But sadly I missed the chance to go. Now I am looking for any set cleanups that I can try and be a part. What would've happened was to go with friends from another class that had the same idea, we would've done our project and that's how it would've went. Since I missed the opportunity, I have to go some other time this month.
What would've went well was we would have went and done everything we could to our possibility to help out at the cleanup. What could've went better is me actually going and participating but a mistake on my end caused me to miss out. My understanding of poverty and other UN issues have been improving over time. Since I was young I could see these issues in the community that I live in. Maybe not all but some have definitely changed. Not everything is perfect, which causes issues, but taking a deeper look at them can give someone a better understanding of what is happening. |
