How did the shift from the Agricultural Revolution to the Industrial Revolution create our "challenge" in my ancient empire? The Russian Empire had trouble finding places to dump waste from their constant wars. Eventually leading to them poisoning their own water sources do to irresponsible dumping of toxic waste. How does the ongoing flux of the Industrial age continue to impact our "challenge" in its current national form? Russiaʻs surface and groundwater has been polluted and contains toxic substances that exceed Russiaʻs safety standards. Samples taken from a riverbank contained high levels of sulfur, oil, heavy metals, and aluminum. Moscowʻs drinking water is currently being taken from upstream locations that are cleaner, but the risk of the water being polluted is still high. Soil and groundwater samples found concentrations of copper, lead, manganese, and zinc. Kozakiewicz, P., Kozakiewicz, P. K. This hugely impacts our challenge in Hawaii because of how unhealthy our farming is now. Sometimes farm waste can escape the farms and all of the antibiotics that are used in those farms find their way into the ocean. One time there was a waste spill in North Carolina and they ended up spilling around 25 million gallons of manure into lakes and rivers. Farms also contribute to around 18% of greenhouse gases. This raises ocean temperatures. (Picture and website citation - What's the role of factory farming in ocean degradation? (2017, July 13). Winter Break Reflection:
My winter break mainly consisted of skateboarding with my friends and watching NetFlix/Disney plus. Before the break, I planned to be doing clean-ups with 808Clean-ups but that plan eventually got scrapped when I realized all of the clean-ups were way too far away from my house and I had no one to drive me. So I eventually changed my idea of doing a beach clean-up to doing a graffiti paint out. This consisted of me and a group of people going around Mililani and painting over walls, electrical boxes, and other objects. The last-minute change from clean-up to graffiti paint over went pretty well considering how last minute it was. The same group of people that I was doing the graffiti paint out with that day had done a graffiti paint-out exactly one week before that so there ended up not being much graffiti to paint over so halfway thru we ended up changing our route so that we can find spots that haven’t been painted over yet. My understanding of poverty has not really changed but I think more has been solidified. Throughout the graffiti paint out we saw a decent amount of homeless and some people from the group talked with the homeless. I was actually very surprised at how caring the people in the group were for all these homeless individuals. I think it was really nice to see people that cared about the community so much. How do the (4) concepts in the notes below connect to supporting EMPIRE building? There were many things that drove the industrial revolution and europe into becoming the dominant civilization. One of the many things that impacted the industrial revolution were the great plethora of philosophers and inventors creating new ideas and crafting amazing creations. The vast array of new technologies played a big role in the industrial revolution. Agricultural inventions that helped make food more efficient were one of the many things that drove the industrial revolution. Europe was the main focus of the industrial revolution and pushed it throughout the rest of the world. How do these things impact or play a part in perpetuating the problem in your Kahiau Project challenge? These play a part in our Kahiau project because with the right technology, its possible that we can save the Earth and water pollution. Since the industrial revolution began energy sources have also been becoming more and more healthy for the environment like solar panels. The more we upgrade our equipment and make it more effective the more of a chance we have to save our planet. Without the industrial revolution we would be screwed, and so would our planet. |
