We have been able to contact Kamehameha Schools Kapālama Elementary and we can now present our topic to those who are younger than us, and make sure that the kids are better suited for situations like this.
My research topic is important because, if newer generations were to know about how negatively substance abuse can effect you, then it will lead them to make better choices for their future. How to better prepare people for the incoming dangers and influences. If I am approached by people with substances, then I have to know to turn them down. Learn to guide younger kids towards what is right, and good for them. I donʻt see any connections between issues and family and issues in the community. Except for communicating between others. I have accumulated the skills of being able to be a leader of a group as an individual, instead of being a follower and being the one told what to do. This will benefit me in the future. I can answer these questions in better and longer detail providing more information for the reader. 1. No, I believe that there was more that I could have done, but I just lost the motivation to do so.
2. I have learned to be able to manage my time. I have also learned what it takes to be apart of a non-profit organization and be apart of the community. 3. Since this project is supposed to also be a global and on a local scale, then I see all the connections that we made previously. 4. Obstacles that I found were mostly revolving around communication skills and the ability to connect with as many people as possible. Our group as a whole has not made any change or progress. Why? Because for me personally, I have been focused on school, yes this is apart of school. But it wasnʻt really focussed in on as a whole.
I believe that in the future, that we will make change to the plan that is coming soon. We will be trying to further contact other organizations to partner with them in a joint effort to raise awareness for drug and alcohol usage. If not being able to work with an organization, we will hopefully be able to at least make posters and/or signs that people will be able to see when driving past, or walking past. Again, I have made little to no progress at all. Neither do I think that any group has made any progress on their projects.
The leadership qualities that I believe necessary in the 21st century are of course very different and varying than from in the past. Some qualities being very similar to those of the past. But some I see as just branches of old traits. For example, a trait that is a branch is the trait of being able to accept ideas from all walks of life. Not just the upper class, not just the middle class, and not just the lower class. But being able to incorporate ideas into a society that is best fit for everyone, so that as many people are satisfied as possible. Any connection that can be made globally can also be made locally. For one thing, being able to interact with other cultures as a whole community is something that you see everywhere but especially perpetuated here, locally in Hawaiʻi. Obstacles that I have come across as a leader for this Kahiau Project is like what I have stated in previous blog updates. Most of them being, the inability to be in contact with the organization we were attempting to partner with. Something that I will think about doing better in my next blog update is being more detailed and thoughtful into my responses to provide the most efficient response possible for the viewers reading this blog. There have not been any specific changes as of current events with the group I am working with. If I am being totally honest. I have not made any progress personally, but I don't think any group has made any kind of progress. My group has not made any substantial progress but we have attempted to make progress on our group project.
I do not think that there will be any progress for my group and other groups as well. For me personally this next month will be pretty busy. So I will try to achieve as much progress as I can in the time allotted for my group and I. What I hope to accomplish by the end of this project is to hopefully raise more awareness to the affects of drugs and alcohol use. As of the last update, I have made little to no progress. Considering that it is hard to make progress with a large non-profit organization in two days, I had a bit of struggle.
This project is important to helping the global community because, it is an issue that affects many people. Young and old, big and small. Nine out of ten times, the usage of drugs and alcohol usually ends up going too far. Many people end up dying on drug overdosage or being too drunk on alcohol and doing something that may affect the people around them on a large scale. This project is important to helping the local community because, like me. A lot of people are surrounded by drugs and alcohol in this contemporary society. The problem only grows now because, people are finding better and simpler ways to attain drugs and alcohol. I myself, have known someone who has died due to an overdose on drugs. That is why it is our job to keep this problem at a stand-still for as long as we can. Like I stated in my previous blog post, I plan to pursue my non-profit organization with my all. By 1) Calling them possibly 3-4 times a day 2) Checking with my group members on the progress they have made 3) Being accountable for the progress I have to make. |
