Introduction
Aloha! Our names are Duke, Jaymison, Nuʻu, and Ocean. Our project is to address homelessness and hunger in Hawaiʻi today. The UN sustainability goal we hope to address is to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.

1) The shift from Agricultural Revolution to the Industrial Revolution didn't create poverty in our ancient empire; Safavid. Safavidʻs ruling empire came to an end in the 1700s, destroyed by an Afghan group that controlled the state and foreign policy for the rest of the Empireʻs rule. The Safavidʻs Empire experienced poverty in the 1700s. After the Industrial Revolution took place, Iran has been in decline since the 1900s. A research done by The Research Center shows that meeting needs rose from 22-26% in urban areas in the summer of 2017 through the summer of 2018. The percentage in rural areas at the time rose from 25-30%. The shift from the Agricultural Revolution to the Industrial Revolution created poverty in Iran because of money. Many people cannot meet the expectation of no poverty in Iran. We are addressing this problem towards poverty in Hawaiʻi, because weʻve experienced poor people on the streets needing food/money, and they donʻt deserve to live on the streets. 2) The ongoing flow of industrial age impacts our challenge in a great amount. When factories start to be built, more homes are being brought up. Up to date items and necessities on the islands are getting more expensive. This will then force families to move out and possibly go homeless. This is very bad for people in Hawaiʻi and is kind of unfair. 3) Homelessness impacts Hawaii in lots of ways. First off if take a drive around the island of Oʻahu you’ll see plenty of homeless. We usually see them at Waikiki and 7-11. One of the main reasons why there are a lot of homeless here is because housing is expensive. Since they can’t pay the bills they’re forced onto the streets. |
1) Expansion is what sets up our kahiau project the most because with more homes being built in Hawaiʻi and more homeless shelters being built, homeless can finally start their lives back up again and find a job which means their expanding their opportunities. Also, with more workers the workforce can grow bigger. 2) Exploration and expansion are the 2 major concepts impacting our Kahiau Project. We feel exploration is a big impact because homeless from all over are being transferred to Hawaii because our weather here is usually perfect all year round. This means it’s easier for people without homes to survive then it would be for a homeless person to survive somewhere else where it’s extremely hot/cold. We also feel that expansion impacts our project because with all these building being built is forcing the homeless to move to spots where they’ve already been kicked out of. Now because of these factors it makes it hard for us to help out everyone in need. 3) We see the impact in modern America and modern Hawaii exchanges in the products we give and receive. The good we receive impacts us because more than half of the food on our shelves in the stores come from different states. Also our necessities mostly all come from off island like soap, towels and more. And lastly most of our things we need for class it all comes from other places like our computers, pencils, clothes, chairs and many many more. The exchange of modern day American to Modern Hawaii impacts us in a huge way. 4) We can be prepared to handle our project with these given exchanges by using the items exchanged between Hawaii and America to donate to others that donʻt have enough money for these items. We think the exchange of items/ideas between the independent nation of Hawaii and America further strengthens their relationship. Clery, V., & Beck, G. (1979). Windows. Triangulating Enlightenment, Industrialization, Colonization & Imperialism
1 ) Two philosophers that have greatly impacted our Kahiau project are Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Immanuel Kant. Jean-Jacques is a French philosopher from Switzerland. His contribution to enlightenment was he believed that humanity was good in the face of nature but corrupted by society’s artificiality. We truly think this means that, we the people do whatever we can to preserve nature more than other peoples lives. Because of this way of thinking, it leads to people not caring about others who are less fortunate or homeless. Therefore this impacts our my Kahiau project greatly because now there are more homeless everyday and nobody is doing anything about it. Then there is Immanuel Kant who is a philosopher from Koenigsberg, Russia. He believed that human freedom has to do with moral responsibility because if someone cannot act otherwise, their act has no moral worth. We took this as if someone makes a mistake then they have no moral worth. This could mean that people who are wealthy feel that all homeless people have no worth for they have made the wrong choices. However, this isn't always true sometimes it could just be that the place they chose to live got too expensive, or that person may have lost a job due to their company going out of business. This is a problem in Hawaii because it’s expensive to live here and the price is only going up thanks to trump. 2) . The 2 biggest industrial revolution results that mostly impacted and my Kahiau project, homelessness was Benjamin franklin. Not Benjamin Franklin himself but his discovery, electricity. The discovery of electricity definitely affected Hawaii in a major way because of the cost. Since Hawaiian is being more urban so it will raise the price of things like for instance electricity. Since the cost of electricity prices go up people with low paying jobs or people who don't have the money to pay for it will soon become homeless. 3) They were lots of propelling factors that happened during these times but we think the biggest two were the exchange of diseases and exchange of ideas. The exchange of ideas were caused by philosophers who didn't believe in the religion and though there was more of a scientific reason. These ideas were probably happening before and after the french revolution. Exchange of diseases were started from many things. One of them was because of exploration and colonization. When the Europeans went to Africa they brought many diseases the Natives were not used to which caused them to drop like flies. These things impact our project topic which is homelessness. They impact our topic because when new ideas are spread they have good and bad outcomes. In this case, maybe someone decided that the house was worth more causing them to up the rent which the family can't afford causing them to leave. 4) Two propelling factors that greatly impacted our project as a result of the Era of Imperialization is discrimination and colonialism. These factors are caused from the feeling of superiority of other countries/empires. These two factors have affected our groupʻs Kahiau Issue in Hawaiʻi greatly. America had come and taken over our land with military force. Our culture and native identity has completely changed from America overtaking our society. Many Natives are discriminated from foreigners. America has taken control over us, many of us donʻt have the economies to buy an education, food, or a house today. Our societyʻs economy has been marginalized for many years. Currently, thereʻs been influence from locals to transfer homelessness (natives, etc.) off the street.
