Project Service Reflection For community service the project that my group did over winter break was with 808CleanUps. We helped build a rock wall in Waimānalo at Pā Honu near Kaiona Beach. This action was to help restore the limu in Waimānalo and help the rock wall. Kalei, Mr. Carillo, Noa, Noaʻs friends, Ana, and I, all met at the beach. It was very windy and cold, but we all managed to push through it. Before entering, we chanted with the instructor Kimeona Kane and began to build the rock wall. Kumu Kane told us about the rock wall and how to help move the sea animals that we encountered. Some things that went well was that everyone was on time and met at the right area. We all helped in some way, and learned more about how to build the rock wall and its history. Another thing that went well was that Kaleiʻs dad was able to help with video footage, being a photographer. What could have gone better is that I could have been more careful. With the strong winds, choppy ocean, and heavy rocks. Another thing I wish went better was to be more prepared for the winds and labor. Overall, it was a good experience and was fun to do with my group and the others who helped. My understanding of the UN resources improved because I got to experience the hands on work of helping. You can easily read about these issues, but helping them is what makes a difference. My thoughts are expanding about world issues with this Kahiau Project because I get to help our communities. I learned more about the sea creatures, the reasoning behind helping the Pā Honu and its history, and more about 808CleanUps, who was a great non-profit to work with! Person, & ProfilePage. | Gandhi and FRBF both show the imperial mindset of reaching a goal because the people were both motivated people. Gandhi wanted to reach the goal of freedom for India and other colored people. Molly in FRBF had the goal of getting home safely after being captured. Both these show the mindset of motivation and persistence which reflects the mindset of an imperialist thinker. |
New technologies impact Hawaiʻi through making more jobs for people. It created thousands of more jobs in Hawaiʻi. Another way technology impacted Hawaiʻi is through facilities and electricity. New inventions brought over more supplies and ways to make people either live longer or die faster. I would like the leaders during the Treaty of Versailles to know that destruction isn't something that is forgotten.
On behalf of indigenous people, they should think about others except themselves. Even the Germans felt anger when they heard about this Treaty of Versailles.
World War II affected my Kahiau project through waste, debris, and radiation. In other places there are radiation issues from after the war, causing many to get sick. After the war there was also much debris from the damages after the war. My Kahiau Project is about sustainability and the environment, and world war II affected it through pollution and deforestation.

Vlog #8: World War II
I think the top 3 technology that was assisted with in World War II was the atomic bomb, different types of tanks, and different types of carriers. Each of these weapons were able to do major damage to empires and colonization. For example, in the lecture we learned about the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The aftermath of using atomic bombs can affect a nation deeply through radiation and long term complications. Technology aids each nation with a way to fight for their country and protect themselves from their rivals. The United States used nuclear weapons more than other countries, this was seen through the simulation video in the lesson.
My Kahiau Project is about sustainability and conservation of energy. We as a nation learn from our actions, and also from seeing the rise and fall of empires throughout history. Native people who were affected by nuclear bombing are still paying the price. Due to the radiation that an atomic bomb leaves behind, many natives have issues with cancer or sickness from it. Atomic bombs relate to my Kahiau Project through waste products and pollution. The bombing of Pearl Harbor damaged many areas and caused pollution in the air at the time as well. With coronavirus events, there has been a decline in air pollution and tourism, which is helping with the topic of conservation of energy. If World War III were to happen, I think the United States would have many nuclear supplies and an army ready to fight. We would also hopefully have strategic planning, in order to keep the people of America safe from any attacks.

The current situation with Covid-19 is affecting us all. We are told to stay home, wear masks, shutdown jobs and schools. Everyone is somehow affected by coronavirus as a whole. With this pandemic happening, thereʻs less talk about WWIII, but it is still relevant to keep an eye on. Our current leaders do have a lot on their plate about trying to find ways to keep our nation safe. My Kahiau Project is about sustainability and energy conservation. With the event of Covid-19, there has been clearer skies and less pollution. People are using their cars less, and some factories are closed and tourist attractions, causing us to have a better and healthier environment. Overall, everyone is affected by the coronavirus and we still keep on thoughts and prepare for a possible WWIII. My heart goes out to all the families who have been affected directly by coronavirus and violence.
