I do feel that in the modern age everyone needs to have their voice heard. Hawaiians do have to compete with westerners for land here in Hawaii. We also have to protect our Native Hawaiian identity. The moment everyone gives up their native identity is the moment that the culture dies. We must stay steadfast in our Hawaiian identity in order for the Hawaiian language and culture to survive.
I can use my privilage at Kameahemah Schools to protect my Hawaiian identity as well to learn and grow for the future. I feel that everyone should try and protect their identity as it is who they are. If your culture dies, then you will disappear with it. I think that everyone should just be themselves as it is the easiest way their culture and identity. This is very important as it is a very good way to raise our Lahui.

1. Overall, I think that I would rate myself a 4 for overall growth in quality of work because towards the end I feel that I worked super hard.
2. I would rate myself a 5 for digital application as I think that I did really well with it, however, I didn't really learn anything new. I was already good with digital application. 3. From the beginning of the course to the end, I feel that my independence and was a 3 as I found myself asking my friends a lot of questions as well as sending as lot of Reminds. 4. A super valuable skill that I learned is where many countries all over the world are and I can at least narrow any country down to what continent it is located in. 5. I think that the best learning comes from making mistakes and if we forget the mistakes of the past, we won't improve for the future. 6. I think that this Kahiau project has been a valuable learning experience as it has helped me learn a little bit more about the current and past problems of the world. Comparing America to past world super powers, they all have one thing in common. They all tried to expand their resources and influence through conquest and colonization. The only thing that differed in past wars and conquests was what was used. Overtime, the world super power shifted from having the strongest warriors, to having the newest weaponized technology.
Technically, the Hawaii islands are still a territory as the land was illegally taken. This plays into colonization and industrialization of our Kahiau Project. Today the US is still taking Hawaiian land as they are now building a telescope on sacred burial ground. The only land that has been given back to the Hawaiian people was infertile land that no one wanted. The main reason that Hitler was able to get power was from propaganda. He gave the Germany people someone to put the blame on and it was the Jews. Hitler said he could save Germany from the their problems caused by the Treaty of Versailles. Because everyone hated the Treaty of Versailles, it gave them a reason to be on Hitlers side. Had the Treaty of Versailles been different and Germany was content with the treaty. It would not give the people a reason to stand by Hitler.
The Treaty of Versailles was a large cause of this Kahiau Project. Many of the problems that we are facing in today's world is caused by the Treaty of Versailles. Factories used during the War are largely causing global warming problems as similar factories are still being used today. WW1 and the Treaty of Versailles greatly impacted Hawaii as well. Hawaii became a military base and target during WW2. None of this would have happen if the Treaty of Versailles was a little be more fair towards the Germans. In todays world, we still see the Malthusian Flux theory in action. Due to populations continuing to grow, diversity will also grow. Some people will take over other people. That is what we are seeing today as some people still hold on to the idea that they are above some people. Malthusian Flux theory says that people will not have enough resources. So they will to things like trying to take down other people to gain power and resources.
The Malthusian Flux Theory plays a part in perpetuating the problem with our Kahiau Project because of how they are so many people in the world. Humans are the main cause of Co2 in the air and we release a lot of it. The main way that was are able to support so many people on this planet is because of large factories that can mass produce things. These factories release a lot of Co2 into the air and it is causing problems for earth. All because of the Malthusian Flux Theory. Gandhi's movements is very similar to today's Black Lives Matter movement. In the video I send he wasn't willing to take a blow for the movement, but I meant to say that he was willing. I brought this up because today the Black Lives Matter movement and Gandhi's movements were all forms of peaceful protest. I do not consider the looting to be apart of the Black Lives Matter movement because it is completely counterproductive and goes against the entire movement as well as giving it a bad reputation. Both the Black Lives Matter movement and Gandhi's movement were both anti racism movements that are positively changing todays world.
Gandhi's movement had a lot to do with de-colonization in todays world. The British Union Jack is still in many flags today. One being the original Hawaiian flag. Gandhi's movement started to fight off British colonization just as the American colonizers had. This is what led other countries or native colonists to fight back and de-colonize themselves. Gandhi's movement was a good example of these as well as Hawaii. The official Hawaiian flag has the Union Jack in it, but the Hawaiian people had an idea of their own and brandished themselves a new flag which is locally known as the actual Hawaiian flag along with what represents them. Parkinson, J. (2016, March 24). Which flags still include the union jack? Retrieved June 25, 2020, from https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-35890670 The use of guns germs and steel greatly affected current day life. The cause of how empires were taken over and colonizing over other empires was not based on personal traits, but who acquired guns, germs, and steel first. In my notes, when parts of Peru were getting taken over, the colonizers with guns, germs, and steel caused a huge advantage over the natives. The natives had not yet developed such tools and were really left at a disadvantage. The Europeans didn’t necessarily have any advantageous traits. They just had the geographic advantage.
The agrarian revolution is what eventually led to the creation of guns, germs, and steel. The changes that came with the guns still shape the world today. The current day world super powers are the countries that have the biggest guns and bombs. It is also these counties that were the ones to acquire said guns, germs, and steel first. They are now known as first world countries. All empires were originally built from Agrarian life styles, but it is the scientific revolution that lead us in today's world. Imagine what the world would be like if everyone still thought that the earth was flat. It was during the Scientific revolution that the idea of a round earth became a thing. The switch from agrarian to scientific also led to the enlightenment thinkers. These thinkers and their ideas greatly impacted current day society.
With everything great that came with the Scientific revolution, there also came problems. The Scientific revolution eventually lead to the beginning of capitalism which created poverty. I think capitalism is great however there are many problems with it. A major one being homelessness and poverty. Another problem that the Scientific revolution brought was the use of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels greatly helped start the industrial life style but it is also the reason the earth is getting hotter and hotter every year. |
