Over break I had many things for our Malama Honua project. I worked on my slides I had to work on, and I went to some beaches and at the beaches I did notice some trash in the sand being left behind by people that just had a party. So when we get to filming our clean up at the beach we will go to the beach I was at and clean it up.

One example of corporate economics creating challenges for my island is that all of the big manufactures are bringing in all of this plastic and it is making it hard to get rid of all of it and they end up on our beaches. One issue that I see that connects to my problem is that a lot of homeless like to live on beaches and they bring all of there things to the beach and a lot of it gets left behind which just adds on to the amount of trash already on Hawaii’s beaches. It is a challenge but I think that we can stand up together and protect and solve this issue. As we live here in Hawaii we have to Malama the Aina and we have to work together so that we can have beaches to swim in. Also here in Hawaii we are not the only people who struggle with pollution everyone around the world but we have to help them and they will help us to keep our beaches safe. -->What are some examples of how IMPERIALIZATION / GLOBALIZATION is creating challenges in your own island, community, state, nation that relates to this UN Goal / Issue? Imperialization is creating a challenge on my island because the United states used military force and took over our land. This relates to my UN goal because now they bring all of there things here and go to our beaches and do not pick up after themselves and leave the beach with all trash all over the place. -->Why is this something to consider: Do you see a specific (friends or family you know) with a personal connection to this (and please try to find at least one) - what/who is it and why? Personally I can see that people are just leaving all of there trash they had from a party they had on the beach and it just blows all around on our beaches and that is not okay. Then sometimes it goes into the water and our sea life think it’s food so they try and eat it but it chokes them. -->What, if anything, are you learning about Imperialization/Globalization and how has your understanding of the impacts of it perhaps influenced the way you see your group topic as a worthwhile challenge or problem to be addressed? One thing that I am learning about more is Globalization and the huge impact it had on the Hawaiian Islands. Globalization has a huge impact because it shows how they came over and brought a mix of good and bad things and some of it makes life easier for the people living in Hawaii. What are some examples of how COLONIZATION OR GLOBALIZATION is creating challenges in your own island, community, state, nation that relates to this UN Goal / Issue? One way that colonization affects my issue is that when the people took over the land they started to get order stuff from outer places and when that happens they leave unwanted plastics and other waste on our beaches and that is not something we want to see when we pull up to a beach and there is all trash and plastic on the sand. Why is this something to consider: Do you see a personal connection to this (and please try to find at least one) - what is it and why? One issue that I see that connects to my problem is that a lot of homeless like to live on beaches and they leave rubbish behind when they move and it just piles on all of the trash on our beaches What, if anything, are you learning about Colonization or Globalization and how has your understanding of the impacts of Colonization and/or Globalization perhaps influenced the way you see your group topic as a challenge or problem to be addressed? Globalization has played a big part in the pollution to our beaches because most of the time when they are bringing good or they are bringing their cars they have to bring it over boat and those boats are usually pulling trash up onto our beaches and that is not what we want. Why was this topic chosen by the group: what is a personal connection to the issue or just because you have to do something :) If a personal connection (and please try to find at least one) - what is it and why? I have a personal connection to this issue because every time I go to most of the popular beaches, as I walk along the beach I always see trash in the sand and a lot of trash in the water. How can this topic change or improve the Hawaii we live in? For who? Does this audience connect with you in any way? If so, how & why.. do you have personal friends of family members that are or possibly could be in this audience? This topic will improve the Hawaii we live in because it will clean up the beaches of Hawaii and all of our sea animals won’t be getting stuck in plastic because we will take majority of the plastic out of the water and off the shores so that it can’t go into the water. What do you think of your ability to make an impact in the community & possibly make a difference in this issue? Why would that be important? What kinds of lessons do you think you will learn from this Kahiau experience? I think I could make a big difference in this issue because we are going to go to a beach that gets a lot of attention from the people and clean up over there so that tourist won’t look at the beaches in disgust and then they won’t want to come back here and Hawaii will lose money. Over winter break I had a lot of fun. I got to travel to Las Vegas as my Christmas present. I got to stay with my cousins and we got to go to a lot of places and ride roller coasters, and eat a lot of food. But I got to think about if Las Vegas has to worry about Pollution in there waters just as much as we have to. It turns out that they actually have to worry about it more because there tap water has kind of a lot of led in it and that is not good.
