If Imperialization is: a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force;-->What are some examples of how Capitalism & corporate economics (Walmart/Walgreens/Target, etc) is creating challenges in your own island, community, state, nation that relates to this UN Goal / Issue? Instead of them buying products from our island, they buy it from third world countries who barely get paid. This creates a issue for us, because they are not buying products in the US which don't benefit our economy. Walmart barley pays their employees any good so they ar making profit with little cost. -->Why is this something to consider: Do you see a specific (friends or family you know) with a personal connection to these issues that connect with poverty or other social challenges (and please try to find at least one) - what/who is it and why? This is something to consider because it will screw with our money we make being a part of the US. If anything being aware of this is good because you don't want to contribute to this cause. -->What, if anything, are you learning about how economic trends impact your Global issue and how has your understanding of the impacts of it perhaps influenced the way you see your group topic as a worthwhile challenge or problem to be addressed? Now that I am aware of what capitalism means. I can finally connect the dots on how it impacts us. Honestly, it impacts us in a bad way because walmart for example depends on third world countries cheap labored products to sell.

What are some examples of how COLONIZATION OR GLOBALIZATION is creating challenges in your own island, community, state, nation that relates to this UN Goal / Issue?
There is a problem with colonization in Oahu. Due to powerful foreigners who come with a well educated mindset, they come to Oahu and they build hotels so that they can make money. This does give more jobs to Hawaiʻi abroad, but it takes sacred land away from the Hawaiians, which in the end leaves them with no land. Not only that, golf courses suck the aquifers dry which leads to water shortages for the people especially Hawaiians that live here. This can relate to the Sustainable Cities and Communities. Why is this something to consider: Do you see a personal connection to this (and please try to find at least one) - what is it and why? This is something too consider and be aware of because foreigners come with education and the mindset to take over. They are greedy and they donʻt care about anyone else but themselves. We need to be more educated on how the system works so we can point out and avoid being taken advantage of. What, if anything, are you learning about Colonization or Globalization and how has your understanding of the impacts of Colonization and/or Globalization perhaps influenced the way you see your group topic as a challenge or problem to be addressed? Im learning on how the system works with these big corporations who come here and take the land and turn it into money. This helps my understanding because I can see the bigger picture. What are some examples of your research topic in your own island, community, state, nation? An example would be that we live in an economy that is unequal. Meaning that there is a dividend between the people who make a living and the people who struggle to make a living. In the community/state there are people who can afford. Why was this topic chosen by the group: what is a personal connection to the issue or just because you have to do something :) This was chosen by the group because we live in a state of economic equality, and we want to better understand it so we can help other people get out of this situation. If a personal connection (and please try to find at least one) - what is it and why? At home I do live in a economic equality state of well-being because my mom works hard but still can't make enough for our wealth. How can this topic change or improve the Hawaii we live in? For who? Does this audience connect with you in any way? If so, how & why.. do you have personal friends of family members that are or possibly could be in this audience? It improves us as people and leaders to share this knowledge with people who are willing to listen. Yes they will because I can connect my personal experience with it. What do you think of your ability to make an impact in the community & possibly make a difference in this issue? Honestly, we will have an impact to those who will listen and take in what we are advocating. In other uhbwords, it matters how people take it in. Why would that be important? What kinds of lessons do you think you will learn from this Kahiau experience? This is important because it builds connections and understandings with others. We will learn how to advocate and better understand how this problem affects us as individuals and us as a society. Capitalism can cause poverty because it is all the trade industry controlled by private owners rather than the state. Communism can cause poverty Communism is a more efficient way of handling economics in todayʻs society. Each individual works at their own pace, length and strength of labor, thus earning their (what should be) fair wage. To earn the same as another for a different type of work is unfair. Capitalism only doesn’t work when goods aren’t traded in for money or value. Capitalism can cause poverty because it is all the trade industry controlled by private owners rather than the state. The labor theory of value, decreasing rates of profit, and increasing concentration of wealth are key components of Marx's economic thought. His comprehensive treatment of capitalism stands in stark contrast, however, to his treatment of socialism and communism, which Marx handled only superficially. |
