This project has helped me to understand the concept of being an action researcher and Global Citizen because before this project, I only had the basic knowledge regarding these animals, for instance abused, neglect, abandoned. It wasn't until this project was I able to dig deeper and apply and empathy to the situation. I was also able to educate myself with the statistics. This project has helped me understand the concept of Global Citizenship because I was able to take a situation where they can't advocate for themselves, and advocate for them. With this project, although my expectations weren't high, and although I didn't know about the previous knowledge, I do feel like my project met the requirements because of the impact that it made in the animals lives, and the lives of the people that were also changed. The patterns that I saw in the work that helped dogs and cats in these situations is that a lot of people that attended the event had a bigger heart for dogs than cats, and majority of the people were also very particular about the breed as well. The perspectives that I learned in the research process in regards to animal euthanasia is that numerous owners and shelters euthanize to put pets out of misery and say that it is the best option but it's not. We often see euthanasia as a bad thing and the perspectives are different from those who see it as a good thing, to end pets our of their misery. At first I had low expectations, and thought that it wasn't going to be a success, but after numerous emails letters, and a brilliant idea it worked out in the end and the results were nothing that I was expecting. A long term plan for action is important because it ensure that things will work out in the end with no complications. What worked is our goal to get pets adopted. What didn't was our original idea, because others things came up. What we could have done better is the planning, and getting the word out about our event.

Because we didn't know about global citizenship before the project started, we haven't really made that a priority so our project doesn't really align with the definition of what it means to be a global citizen. If anything, we represent what it means to be a global citizen by doing a simple task, and speaking for those who can't speak for themselves and don't have a voice in the matter/issue at hand. This project affects me because one day when I was driving over to my Grandmas house, I was in the car with my mom and I saw this man on the side of the street kicking and punching his dog. It was heart-breaking to watch and realize how I didn't have enough time to save the dog, and knew that it would be dangerous to interfere. This affects my community because since I live in the district where they went to the house to rescue all the animals that were abused or in a bad living environment.
As the date is approaching next week I am very worried that all the things that we would like as well as need to be done won't be achieved. Now knowing that we will be presenting soon another reason to be scared. Plus my sources aren't getting back to me quick enough or answering question and our project will be cutting it very close.
T-minus 24 days till the big day...
Throughout this journey a lot of changes have been made, and novel of questions have been asked. As a group we have made changes to best suit not only this project, but the social lives of the group. We originally planned for the date to be on April 15, but being that communication is bad between various sources, and locations, we were worried that as the day comes closer, it would be up to the exception that we have set out for ourself. I have acquired another person to go through, her name is Amanda, and she is the person in charge of all events, so I set her an email over break with all the questions that I have shared with Diane, and every single about this project, our goal, and any detail that would be vital for her to know as far as this project goes. I still await a response, and Diane and I are still in contact with each other. We are now starting publicity and getting the word out. Our next task is to potentially talk to the dog and cat huggers club, to see if they are able to do some the publicity as well within their group, and have them also spread the word. We have created numerous social media accounts, and Teah along with Miranda are working on poster, and signs, and flyers to hand out. They are also doing research so that come the day and people have questions about our reasons, or information about animals that are neglected or abused, we have the answers. As progress is being made to the project as a whole, my part within the project has been very active lately, and after finalizing all the details as far as the project, I was able to give some specific questions to Diane, and got some answers back as far there terms, and her we can further make this project and event work, as far as collaboration goes. Below are a few of the messages and emails between Diane and I as for as questions and clarification goes. After sending the email to the info branch at Oahu SPCA with all of my contact information, I wasn't exprecting such a quick response, but it seems that have underestimated the people at Oahu SPCA. After reaciving a text message on 1/8/17 from Diane; a worker at Oahu SPCA I was not only filled with joy, but also hope that our project was getting off to a good. Although my task of getting in contact with a worker from Oahu SPCA is done, now I need to finalize all the details with Diane, in regards to making this project. This is a good step in the right direction, and I hope it stays that way. Also, text is an excellent way from both parties to stay consently in touch. Below are some screenshots between me and Diane with a time stap, of when it recieved, and also when we made contact. The task that I was assigned to for our project was to get in contact with someone from the Oahu SPCA in regards to doing a collaboration with them for our project. After getting thier contact information, I sent an email out to thier info branch on 1/9/17. Here is a picture below of the email sent to both my group and the info email in regards of starting a collaboration with them. |
