VLOG 1:
Transcript: What issue will you be talking about today? Overpopulation. What do you think about this issue? It's a big problem for a lot of countries in the world and locally, it's a problem in Hawaii with homelessness, tourism, and traffic. Why is this issue important to address? Because it affects us directly, driving around we see traffic and homeless people and we can't find a way to help them [these problems]. How does it link up to the UN sustainability goals? The goal that it links up to is "No Poverty" which is the lack of materials or money and that poverty is related to overpopulation because most countries with people living in poverty are overpopulated. |
How do you see yourself addressing it in the Kahiau Project? I can see myself helping at shelters.
How would you get started? I would do research about ways I can help or prevent it [the problem].

VLOG 2:
Transcript: Some examples of our research topic in our island, community, state, and nation, is water pollution. This can be debris in our oceans or on coastal areas / shores. We chose this topic because water pollution is a big problem locally, as we see trash on every beach on Hawaii. Water pollution affects us because we swim in these waters, as well as possibly get food and water from these sources. I connect to this issue because since we live on an island, and we're surrounded by water, it affects us: what we do and what we put into the environment will affect us later. |
This topic can improve the Hawaii we live in because we can clean up beaches and raise awareness to others to pick up trash and not litter. This can help the people who live here because we will have cleaner beaches and water, and it can also help the wildlife that lives around the islands.
My friends and family members could be in this audience because the general idea is to raise awareness and encourage others to help with keeping our land and oceans clean. Anyone can help in some way.
I think we can make a small difference just by ourselves, but if we work with an organization and other people, we can get more done. If we could make a difference, maybe it could encourage other people to want to do beach cleanups too.
I think I will learn how to work hard and work with others. I will also learn how to find problems locally and globally, and create a plan to try to solve them or make a difference.

VLOG 3:
Transcript: Globalization is affecting our topic because it has to do with the transport of water or wastewater and also globalization adds to pollution. Not only water pollution but air pollution also. I see a connection between the colonization and the overthrow of the Hawaiian government, which is also imperialism. This ties in with what we're learning about colonization and globalization and it has impacted our understanding because what we're learning about colonization and globalization and imperialization is mostly seen as negative things and they have had negative impacts on the world, especially for our state. In Hawaii, it has a negative impact. These things have impacted how we see our topic and our project and it makes want to solve the problems that have been caused by colonization and globalization. |

VLOG 4:
Transcript: Globalization is creating challenges in our island, community, state, and nation because it is adding to the water pollution and wastewater problem. It's hard to find drinkable water currently, and one of the things preventing water access is free trade and foreign direct investment. Companies are beginning to use more and more water for production, and they're also leaving more and more wastewater, which adds to the pollution problem. |

VLOG 5:
Transcript: The UN goal is about water pollution and wastewater. These corporate economics (examples, Walmart, Walgreens, Target) are affecting it because they are adding to the wastewater and water pollution problem and they are also using up more water than we have. What we're learning about imperialization and globalization is all the negative effects of it and how it impacted the world and Hawaii. This is making us want to help the problem and change Hawaii to be how it was before imperialization and globalization. |
