Corporate economics like Walmart, Walgreens, Target, and more, are causing problems that I think add to the problem of poverty. One of the things I noticed are price differences on the same product all around the world. One shirt could cost $20 at Walmart but cost $5 somewhere else. It might not seem to contribute to the problem of poverty, however it does contribute to the poverty of the makers. The maker of that shirt isnʻt the one getting paid for the work he/she did, the seller is. The full value of what that shirt was worth is not getting back to the maker of the shirt, who really deserves the money. I think that’s why labor workers are most times in poverty because their pay doesnʻt meet the work that they actually do. This relates to my issue because one of the main reasons why people go hungry everyday is because they suffer poverty. If we want to work towards a fair and equal future, we need to first find a way to fully reward people for the work they do.

Imperialism is a state government or advocacy of extending power and dominion, by direct taking land or by gaining political and economic control of other areas. Now knowing this, I think that to really make a difference in this hunger problem, you have to go to the source of the problem, which is the government. I think to think of it simply, the government is demanding too much money and not everyone can live their whole life without being in debt at some point. That should be a sign that the people don't have the money the government wants, so they should lessen that demand. Anyways, that demand is what makes people go in debt because there's just so much to pay for. Not only directly to the government, but for other necessities of living as well, like housing, clothes, etc. So in terms of imperialism, I think that it is the reason why people today are going hungry, which is because the government is wants too much from the people and since we put them as a priority because they have e power to take everything away from us, we need to give them what they ask for and be left with little to fend for ourselves.I think colonization plays a big role in my groups' topic which is feeding the hungry. Colonization is basically people settling in a populated area and changing that communities culture. One example of modern colonization is war. When outbreaks of war occur, cities are taken over and attacked in order to gain more leverage and win against their enemy. When countries attack cities they don't see other humans as equals and in result they destroy their homes, their families, and their lives. They are left with no money, no homes, and no food. They are forced to live off of what little they're left with because of war between the government of countries whose job is supposedly supposed to be to protect their citizens.
Globalization also plays a part in my groups' topic. Globalization is when businesses or organizations develop international influence through sharing ideas. Although it may seem like a good thing, it only seems to be benefitting the wealth in cities and manufacturing jobs overseas, smaller cities and rural areas fall behind in the economic progression. As you can guess, poverty is one of the main reasons why people go hungry everyday, and if globalization is only affecting the richer society, what use is globalization to the people that need the help the most? In the end, the trend of globalization and colonization only affect and benefit the richer community. Since that doesn't help our cause, then that means it's against it. I think homelessness in general is a really serious issue, but we thought that we could narrow it down a little by focusing on our those that go hungry every night. I'm pretty sure that in almost every car ride we're in we can spot at least one homeless person. Whenever I see that all I can think about is how much I want to help them because no one deserves to be living on the streets scavenging for food. Everyone deserves to live, and part of living is eating food. I feel that by addressing this issue of adults and children going hungry we can slowly make a difference in the bigger issues like homelessness because it's one less thing for them to worry about so they can get on the right track on making a living for themselves again. This is part of the reason why my group and I decided to focus our project on helping those who go hungry because it's a real issue, and for fortunate people like us who have 3 meals a day, we can sacrifice some of our time and energy to helping others have at least one proper meal a day. My group originally planned on doing volunteer work after Christmas break because our schedules didn't match up. So sadly my break wasn't productive in terms of this project. However I did look into more we can do other than just volunteer work and when we came back to school we decided that this month we would focus on collecting cans and doing something similar to a food drive. We decided on doing this for January instead of going in to do volunteer work because the day that the organization set aside just so happened to coincide with our school's Sophomore Banquet. We thought that to stay productive we should also work on collecting cans of food. In the following months we will dedicate our time to doing actual work by volunteering and helping the organization we're partnering with.
