Some examples on how imperialization and globalization is creating challenges in my own community because being Hawaiian, we are deeply connected to the land, and everything that lives on it. They have taken it from us wrongfully. So, if we achieve a quality education, we can learn how to take our land back rightfully, and take care of it in the way we are supposed to.
Some examples on how colonization and globalization is creating challenges in my own community is that they arenʻt really paying attention to how we need a better education. It was their fault for us not knowing knew skills that were brought in. They required us to learn many new subjects and in order for us to learn these new things, we need better education. My group and I also have personal connections to this problem because we have many friends and families in schools who arenʻt as fortunate and we would really like to help them achieve an education they deserve.
Quality education is a very big problem in Hawaii. Some examples on this topic in my own community, is that the education isnʻt really good on my home island. I came from two public schools and there is a very big difference from the learning there, and the learning here. We chose this topic because here in Hawaii, we really needed to focus on the amount of people that is getting a good education here. We would also want to help other people who are not as privileged as us. We want to help our family and hopefully direct some attention to this topic. I feel like we should at least try to make a difference in our community,
During Christmas break, I went back to my island and I spent a lot of time with my family. I went to the beach and also talked to my parents and grandparents about school. One of my grandparents is a teacher, and she teachers at my old Elementary school, Kilohana. and I asked her some questions about how she teaches and how the kids are learning in class. I then compared it to the way we learn here, and the results were very different.
