Today was early release at school so I took Keanu home early and we packed up the truck and headed to Makua. The water was a little murky and there was a strong rip current we fought all day. We got burnt out really fast and the current was getting a little too strong so we decided to head in. It was overall a pretty good dive. We brought out about 15lbs. of Toau and Roi. The fish were really small so there was a lot of fish overall.

We got off the bus and packed all of our dive gear. We shot it down to Hau Bush. Also known as Oneʻula Beach Park. I grew up diving the outside reef here and wanted to show Keanu. We went out for an hour and a half till the sun went down. There was a lot of fish on the one ledge we hung out at and we ended up with 25lbs. It was really dirty on the inside reef in the waves but the outside cleared up and it was pretty clean.
This morning the water was glassy and clear. We were diving Makua again but a little ways down from where we normally dive. We were dropping in the same spot all morning and the fish started getting used to our pattern so we called it a wrap and came in a little earlier than planned. Sadly, we only came up with 15lbs.
This morning the winds were howling offshore but as we packed the boat and got ready, the wind started to die. The wind only chopped the surface of the water. When we jumped in, the water was clean and very cold. It was a long dive but the fishing was slow. We were out all morning and afternoon but had a turnout of only 25lbs.
Today I picked up Keanu early in the morning and we went to Makua for a quick morning dive. The water was clean on the outside and the winds were very light, creating ideal dive conditions. We found a nice little cave and dropped on it all morning. We ended up with about 20lbs of Toau and Taape. Overall it was a pretty good turnout.

A decent sized group of us went out on the boat and dove 3 big reef heads in K-Bay. We pulled out about 40lbs all together. They were small Toaus and Taapes so there were more fish total. Eastside, specifically K-Bay, has big amounts of small fish. So, its a lot more work but we get more fish out which means less reproduction. March 22, 2017
We drove to Makua on the West Side and shot about 50lbs total of Toau and Taape. We had 5 Roi on the side but didn't see too much other Roi so we did good. The Roi are smarter than the Toaus and Taapes so they are a little bit more of a challenge. That afternoon, we invited see friends and family over and we cooked fish with them. Of course we didn't cook 50lbs of fish, we gave a lot of fish out to neighbors and family. March 20, 2017
Keanu and I drove down to the East Side and dove a couple big reef heads in K-Bay. We had a decent turnout and we pretty much cleaned up the areas we hit. My name is Micah Rickard, I am from Ewa Beach, Oahu and I am 16 years old. I go to Kamehameha Schools and I am a contributor to the Imu for Shriners. Not only will this Imu raise money for the children at Shriners, but it will bring the people together in a family type of environment. People will learn new things, meet new people, and help out for a good cause. It is an overall Win-Win situation.
