Explain and support with evidence from the lecture, what were the top 3 hotspots of the Cold War?
The three hotspots were Vietnam, Korea, and the Cuban Crisis. Vietnam was definitely a hotspot because it was a couple of decades-long and it was the only war America won but also lost. Korea was also a hotspot and still is today because of the tensions between the North and South. Even today they are still not one nation. Cuba was also very important because if communism got into the west it would make it much harder to contain. Connecting with your Kahiau Project, did the WW1 or the War to End all Wars ever really end? When we re-think about the ideas perpetuated in Hawaiian native ʻike, on the Mauna, and through the practices of Mālama Honua, does it line up better with the ideals of Free Market Capitalism or Communism/Socialism? Why? Why is this a threat to the rule of the United States and the systems that are set up here for native kānaka? Do you agree that these systems set up to help native people? Why or what not? Personally, I think the War to end all wars sort of ended but not quite. I think this because all the nations are sort of getting along but not quite. For example, North Korea and everyone else donʻt really get along. I think the ideas perpetuated by Hawaiians line up better with Socialism because we are all the same and we are all fighting the same cause I guess. I donʻt really know. It is a threat to the rule of the United Staes because when we as Hawaiians stand side by side were unbeatable. For example Mauna Kea, when we were one, the government couldn't do anything. Also, this is a threat to native kānaka systens because we can easily You may not know it but we as pacific islanders are still affected by the devastating affects of the WW2 technology. One popular example is Kahoʻolawe where it is not safe to go because of the large amount of bombs that still occupy the land. We as pacific islanders are still paying the price because of the U.S wreck-less acts. Bikini Atoll was home to islanders and there were kicked off their own precious land and moved to somewhere foreign. Now look, generations later these people are still homeless and out of place with nowhere to fit in. Now letʻs talk about the big weapons at the time. The top 3 WW2 tech that help win the war was the T-34, M1 Garand and the famous atomic bomb. These were very crucial at the time and some of them were very new and destructive. With these foreign devices the bad side stood no chance. M1 Gerand was a very good gun but there were some flaws in the reloading so they stopped using it.
Explain how (In what ways) was the Treaty of Versailles the most important political document of the 20th Century? How did the Treaty of Versailles set up the world for War the 2nd time and explain how the treaty impacted geography & especially the Pacific & Hawaiʻi? This was a peace treaty that set up WW2 basically. Germany got pissed because they had to lose out billions by paying other countries for the damage that had been done. Document said that the U.S. had dibs on Hawaiʻi. This kind of just set up who getʻs what land. Showed who was apart from other nations. Treaty of Versailles set up the world for WW2 because Germany was pretty pissed at the Jews because they backstabbed them. The leadership skills you need to execute the big picture is simple. The traits you need for this big job is to do what you say you're going to do, listen to the people and do not be selfish. You need to be someone who people look up to and do things well so that they will want to re-elect you. For example don't be Donald Trump, he is selfish and is so bad at his job he might get impeached because the people don't like him. Be like Barack Obama because he got re-elected so he was doing something right.
The leadership skills you need to execute the small picture is the same as what you need to execute the big picture. In Hawaiʻi we want leaders that actually do what they promise and interact with the community. We want them to be loyal and definitely not selfish. For example be like my district senator Jarrett Keohakaloe who everyone loves. One reason we love him is he fixed a major traffic problem and it really helps.
