The ideas of capitalism from the Cold War impacts us all with the current situation. With Covid 19, a huge capitalist crisis is occurring in our state. Many small businesses in Hawaiʻi are failing to make a living for themselves, causing bankruptcy and an end towards their products. Meadow Gold recently filed for bankruptcy, causing an end to a famous drink in Hawaiʻi, POG. Governor Ige proposed salary cuts for state workers, creating an even more low-income job for most individuals near minimum wage. I believe that our world is too engaged towards this global pandemic to start/cause a new war. A new war will cause more casualties & money blown, maybe a huge economic crisis in our whole world.
Our work with the Kahiau project has definitely prepared us towards our new life in the Covid 19 environment. We have been working a majority of the project digitally. Because of that, it isnʻt much of a pain to do most of our work in our new life.

There isn’t really a top 3 for World War 2 technologies that have assisted in ending WW2 and winning the war for the Allies and the United States. I truly find that the atomic bombs/nuclear weapons have created many atrocities, nuclear warfare, fear of rhetoric & safety, and modern war between all global nations. Germany has been oppressed throughout the 1900s & The Great War. In an ethical dilemma, this oppression caused many battles and mostly, WW2. There were many mass killings & genocides of people, mostly from discrimination and patriotism by the Germans. I believe that the US wanted to stop all of that, also having a fear that Germany would develop nuclear weapons before they can. So, they took control and tested many atomic bombs, coming up with 2 to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki (Little Boy & Fat Boy). This ultimately led up to mass surrenderings and the ending of WW2. Nuclear weapons now have a massive influence on our Modern Warfare.
The ethical atrocities that arise from the use of WW2 technology show good and bad leadership actions on the part of the US. Although the testing of nuclear weapons has become an ethical dilemma, the US has basically taken control of our own lands and is using it for the better. There’s no discrimination taking place, but at least the US is winning the nuclear warfare between other nations. I believe that us getting bombed on is equivalent to us testing polynesion islands for nuclear weapons in the end. These atrocities continue to impact Moananuiakea because of a rhetoric of fear and safety being pushed into the brains of all the islanders (PTSD). Many diseases & casualties were caused by the radiation and explosions of the nuclear weapons. In our nation, many kanaka and other natives are paying the price for our land to be used as military bases, causing homelessness and the transfer of people out of their own homes. These type of events usually influence patriotism in our own society and the idea that “This is our society” which I support. Since Hawaiian is being more urban so it will raise the price of things like for instance electricity. Since the cost of electricity prices go up people with low paying jobs or people who don't have the money to pay for it will soon become homeless. They impact our topic because when new ideas are spread they have good and bad outcomes. In this case, maybe someone decided that the house was worth more causing them to up the rent which the family can't afford causing them to leave. Currently, thereʻs been influence from locals to transfer homelessness (natives, etc.) off the street. This is a problem in Hawaii because it’s expensive to live here and the price is only going up thanks to trump.
My first philosopher Iʻve chosen that closely impacts my Kahiau Project is Adam smith. He contributed economic ideas which relates towards money and poverty today. I chose this philosopher because he relates towards my project.
The second philosopher Iʻve chosen that closely impacts my Kahiau Project is Georges- Louis Leclerc. He contributed a quote, “Hold on; Hold fast; Hold out. Patience is genius. This relates towards my project because when youʻre in poverty you shouldnʻt be freaking out and stuff, just stay patient with what you have at the moment. Iʻve chosen this philosopher because he relates to my Kahiau Project. The first philosopher that relates to my leadership values is Jean-Jacques Rousseau. He expressed his own thoughts through music and literature which is pretty cool. He believed humanity was good in the face of nature but corrupted by societyʻs artificiality. He also explained in one his novels that art and sciences are a result of pride. I can really relate to the opinions of this philosopher. The second philosopher that relates to my leadership values is Immanuel Kant. He had a deep belief in only telling the truth. He also believes that moralities of actions donʻt depend on consequences but rather they fulfill their duty. I can really relate to what this dude says. I think besides from grades just becoming a smarter person is going to motivate me in this class. All my friends are like Straight A students and my grades are kind of trash. So Putting more effort in this class will get my grade up. During the break I was planning on going to my local church and feeding the homeless during Christmas Day or whenever. The local church I was going to go to was New Hope in Hawaii Kai. What actually happened was me being sick for a whole week of break, then just not being able to do it during Christmas because I was still sick. For the rest of the break, I went fishing, played basketball, ran, and went to the beach with my friends & family. Overall, I think I messed up big time because I don’t know if I have enough time to do this service project. I’m hoping to complete this by next week.
I think my understanding of poverty and UN issues of humanity improving. This is because Iʻm learning more about the people that cannot afford things in their lives and canʻt eat food. |
