What is our topic & Why is it important to do action-research on?
Our topic is eradication of invasive species. It is important to take action in invasive species because most of our endemic plant and animal life is declining if not becoming extinct due to being smothered out their environment. They have a hard time competing with invasive species because the invasives can grow faster and use more of the endemic species environment.
Who is our group & what at is are the steps we will execute for the Kahiau over the Winter break?
Our group members are Blaze Gomes, Kela’i Takahashi, Robert Iaea, and Joey Mahiai-Paleka. Our steps in executing this Kahiau project is to go mālama the ʻāina in any way possible to help the Hawaiian culture.
What have I found challenging about this project so far?
I found that finding a way for all of our group members to go to a lo‘i is the most challenging part of this project because we are all from different Islands.
What do I expect to learn / get out of this project?
I expect to learn how to use my land and things around my community to better affect me community. Also I want to be able to help my communities farm because people from all over my community go to this farm.
Who am I tapping for assistance in my community or at home to get this done?
Some people that I might ask to help in this project is our parents. We need their permission to go certain places in order to do our project. Some other people that we may ask for permission is the land owners. Our plan was to go to the loʻi and mālama ʻāina there. In order to do that, we need to ask for permission from the landowner to see if we can help.
