From day 1 to day 30, I would rate myself a 5 in the improvement of quality and maiau work about history. I feel like from day 1, my goal was to produce quality work to the best of my ability and be a try hard. I feel like I put a lot of time and effort into producing quality work for history. From day 1 to 30, I would rate myself a 5 in the improvement of the quality of digital application. I would rate myself a 5 because in the beginning, I wasn't so sure about how to operate photoshop and illustrator and I was always asking my friends for help and I didn't have confidence in myself. But as time passed on, I gradually got better and better and I gained the confidence I needed and now I can know how to use it off the top of my head. From day 1 to day 30, I would rate myself a 5 of the improvement of independence and self organization. I would rate myself a 5 because even at the beginning I always tried to turn my work in on time to the best of my ability and actually did turn in most of it on time. I also rate myself a 5 because the independent assignments, I did all by myself and it really showed me how capable I am of completing things by myself and how independent I can be. The work was very interesting and knowledgeable. Although I admit I thought it was going to be boring, I underestimated this class and it really taught me a lot of new things I never knew before. Not only did it teach me about history, but is also gave me life lessons that I can apply to my life. Something that was valuable but took the longest was the flipped lectures. This was valuable because it gave me the mindset of how I need to complete it, instead of I have to complete it. I didn't really have an aha moment because there was a lot of work all of my aha's got lost in them. Making better connections between historical and current events can be helpful to me in the future because it will show me that whenever there is a problem in modern society, I can go back in history and analyze what I can do to solve the problem. The Kahiau Project has been very valuable in learning project management and applying critical thinking and connections between historical and current issues we face. The Kahiau project established this global problem that was able to really connect to anything. We just had to think deep and hard enough to find out what it did connect to. The Kahiau project not only taught me a lot about a different culture, but it taught me a lot about making connections and thinking deeper and outside of the box.

The National Independence Day other known as La Hoihoi Ea is an important and significant event to show our independence and strength as not only a state, but as a culture and community. Our families can balance the need to compete in European/Western for resources and land by doing and fulfilling their own kuleana as native Hawaiians. Us as Hawaiians and natives to this ʻāīna and island, instead of competing against each other, we have to work together as one community, as one lāhui. We have to fulfill our ancestors footsteps, and revive and restore the forgotten parts of our culture and work together to rebuild this community and culture. In order to protect our future generations of Hawaiians and lāhui, we need to stand together as one, and have the power of one. We need to ensure that we are known and valued in this world by embracing our culture and showing pride in who we are as Hawaiians and our identities.
Being given this blessed and privileged opportunity to learn at Kamehameha Schools I can ensure that our native identities remain steadfast, known, and productive in the 21's century by really taking pride that I'm Hawaiian and how we have to spread this mindset and knowledge to all the natives. This mindset will instill this courage and confidence that they love who they are and they love their culture. For example some things we can do is to establish and maintain more education about natives, and POC, and how even though we have been and are mistreated, we still deserve a purpose in this life and we're just like everyone else. We need to teach the younger generations that no matter what family you come from, you have to be proud of who you are and where you come from. GET INVOLVED. (n.d.). London AP News Wednesday, July 8, 2020 My article is about how the pandemic could push millions to the brink of starvation and hunger. The humanitarian group, Oxfam said that, “mass unemployment, disruption to food production and declining aid as a result of the pandemic could push an estimated 122 million people to the brink of starvation this year.” The coronavirus is pushing millions of the poorest people deeper into poverty. The food crisis is worsening due to closures of borders and routes of food shipments. Oxfam estimates that the people experiencing crisis level hunger will jump up to 270 million at the end of this year. The geography theme this can connect to is human environment interaction. This is human environment interaction because this shows how the production and shipment of food is severely lacking and is affecting millions of people’s lives. It is pushing millions to the brink of starvation. My reaction to this was surprised and sad. I was surprised because I was amazed at how these people were to estimate how many people would experience crisis level hunger at the end of this year. This just shows how smart they are. I was also shocked by the amount of people because that is a lot of people. I was sad because it shows how many people have to suffer from this and how a lot of people who think they don’t have a lot, really do and how they need to be grateful for what they have. The world history themes this can connect to is science and technology and economics. This can connect to science and technology because Oxfam was able to calculate how many people would face crisis level hunger by the end of this year. This can also connect to economics because it shows how many people are poor and how they struggle to afford food and stable housing. It shows how they are in major economic depression and it’s to the point where they are at the brink of starvation. This can connect to the people of Hawaiʻi because of how due to the pandemic it is causing major conflicts with the economy. Due to this pandemic, it is making every one stay at home in quarantine. Some jobs won't allow their people to come to work. No work means no money. This makes it harder for the people to afford food and the bills for their families when cannot get paid. I wouldn't compare to this brink of starvation but this can really connect to how this pandemic truly is putting people in deeper hunger, starvation, and poverty. Retrieved July 10, 2020, from https://apnews.com/fba2d824113396d5e133a1b25bd6ca37 What makes America as a dominant empire is their mentality and how they always want to be the top dog. They are a very prideful empire. An example of this is how when nuclear weapons became more popular, and how America beat all the other empires who were apart of this by a landslide. America had used about 1,032 nuclear bombs to conduct more and more research and how they can improve and advance them. This just shows how these nuclear bombs was a big impact to the empires and how America took it pretty seriously. This can compare to all the other empires because every empire has its own mentality and unique traits. For example Germany, they were more ruthless and vengeful. They truly had something to fight for which was to regain their glory and honor. The way America handles the resources and the policies of expansion and dealing with natives is based on how they feel and what they think is the better option. The natives most likely don't even play a part in making these decisions, just the government and the state themselves. This can literally connect to how America has forcibly taken control over native lands, such as Micronesia, Hawaiʻi, and many more countries. The impacts and the occupations of America plays a factor in my group's issue which is poverty. When America came, they forcibly took over native and sacred land, creating and developing modern buildings, schools, and technology. Not only did this propose a cultural problem to the native Hawaiians, but an economical one as well. With all these new innovations and buildings, they didn't really suit the Hawaiians and there lifestyles leaving them in an economic depression and making some live in poverty. This shows how reckless America sometimes selfish. Helen Regan, Angus Watson and Carlay Walsh, CNN 3:08 AM, Thursday, June 11, 2020 My article is about how protestors came together in major cities of Australia demanding justice over minority deaths in police custody. The protests had started after a 17 year old indeginous boy was unnecessarily physically injured. The family said that this was, “dangerous and uncalled for,” and they demanded charges against the officer. About 10,000 people rallied together in Sydney after a court said it was illegal to protest there due to social distancing. This also took place in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Adelaide. These protests were under the banner, “Stop Black Deaths in Custody.” The protestors are calling for justice for an Aboriginal man, David Dungay, who died in prison due to the brutal and restraining police officers. Just like George Floyd, the person who the Afro-Americans want justice for, his last words were, “I can’t breathe.” The geography theme this can connect to is place. This event can relate to place because it shows that it is not only the Afro-Americans protesting and calling for justice but it is also happening all over the world. It also can relate to place because it shows how people from different cultures and races are standing together in solidarity to show that they want change and they won’t tolerate inequality. My reaction to this was proud and amazed. I was proud because I like how the idea of Black Lives Matter spread all over the world and it has influenced other cultures to protest and fight for their purpose and independence as well. This has inspired people to not only protest, but protest in solidarity and together even if they’re different races. I was amazed because I didn’t know that it has spread all the way to Australia and it was interesting to see the protests and all the people coming together. I was also amazed because even with this coronavirus going on these people still choose to protest and fight for their native and indigenous rights. The world history theme this can connect to is cultural interaction. This event can connect to this theme because it shows how different cultures are fighting for the same cause and for the same purpose. It shows how different cultures stand together in unity and solidarity to fight for their native and indigenous lives. Works Cited Regan, H., & Watson, A. (2020, June 11). Because Germany was accounted for causing the war they had to provide a lot of money to fix up what they caused, because that's what the other nations required. Unfortunately, since the Germans weren't that wealthy in money they had to make it up in cash crops, and steel. This put them in even more of economic depression. Due to the loss of World War I, the Germans wanted to regain and restore their glory and honor. So they relied on Hitler to do the job. As a result Hitler and the Nazi's were able to attain so much land and conquer big empires. This shows that if Germany wasn't sanctioned so harshly then the other empires wouldn't have to go to war with Germany. The main reason Hitler was able to do all of this was because the Treaty of Versailles made Germany face all these issues which led to future conflicts.
The outcome of WW1 and the Treaty of Versailles can impact my group's issue which is poverty because it shows how when losing a war it puts the people in economic, and social depression. For example when Germany lost the war they had to provide a lot of resources to pay back putting them in economic depression. This caused some people to live in poverty due to the lack of money, food, and resources. Not only Germany but allied countries like Austria and Hungary as well. This also caused them to lose territories which means less land to live and expand upon. This can connect to my group's empire which is Africa because many Africans are facing poverty today due to economic problems. Axelrod, J. (2019, August 11). Of course no disease, or food doesn't really apply here, but inequality does. The Black Lives Matter movement is a movement to fight for black lives, independence and equality. But inequality and racism are checking them and are coming across them and they have to fight and persevere. The Malthusian Flux can connect to my group's issue which is poverty because it shows how overpopulation plays a factor in creating poverty. Whenever there is overpopulation, there is not going to be enough houses for everyone causing people to be homeless and be poor. It also causes them to not get a job which makes them poor and live in poverty. Disease can also play apart in these because people who live in poverty is more likely to get disease since they’re more exposed to the bacteria outside and all the pollution. Colonization and imperialism play a part in poverty because the people who are facing poverty are basically also facing inequality. Unfortunateness also plays a part because some families are just naturally poor and they can't afford food or shelter. But this just shows how unfair and unbalanced life is and how not everyone has a home and is living a good life. The poverty rate in Hawaiʻi is about 9.5% or 133,000 people. This can also correlate to homelessness and how the rate of Homelessness in Hawaiʻi is much higher than the poverty rate. The reason this is important is because of how if poverty isn't solved or looked more into, than these poverty rates will drop and homelessness will rise. These issues are all over the globe and they need to be fixed. (n.d.). It shows how Gandhi shows his leadership skills through his religion and his personality. For example when he was burning all of the people's passes that was under the British government, he didn't stop even though the guard was beating him up. This shows his strength and will and how we won't give up for his people, and family. When Gandhi called the meeting for all the citizens, he says that they will receive punches and not give them. A quote Gandhi says in the movie is, "Because they may torture my body, may break my bones, even kill me... They will then have my dead body — not my obedience." This resembles how Gandhi would never submit and obey the British even if it means him getting beaten up. Gandhi is true symbol and spokesman of Humanity.
This connects to the black lives matter movement today because just like Gandhi, they're fighting for their independence, their rights, and equality. Gandhi led a civil disobedience, non-violent and peaceful protest which is exactly what the black lives are doing today to show their worth and that that deserve a purpose in this world just like everyone else. This can connect to Mauna Kea and how many Hawaiians and non-Hawaiians were apart of this peaceful protest and movement. This all relates to one theme which is to fight for who you are and your culture. Gandhi Movie Exclusive: Amnesty maps out US police violence at #BlackLivesMatter protests. (n.d.). In the presentation it talks about how with steel there were many new innovations, advancements, and new creations. A specific example is when the Europeans were able to inherit steel, which was classified as the "real," power back then, and they were able to take it to a higher and more advanced level. This can connect to my groups not necessarily my groups issue but what is happening to help and support it. Something that is helping to support poverty is how technology and complex innovations are being used. For example, how we used computers to create articles or blogs about poverty and how we need to and can help it. Another example is how the people that are facing poverty or inequality are creating movements and how the idea of a strong mindset has come to them. Not only innovations and technology can be taken to new heights and higher levels, but humans and their minds and bodies as well. The UN development goal this can connect to, "Good Health and Well-Being." These two things correlate to each other because it shows how the welfare and health of humans can be supported through advanced technology and if they make they mindsets stronger and take it to a higher level.

For example when the people thought the world was Heliocentric it made them develop a strong desire and deeper understanding of the world and geography. Another example is how native people were used as a workforce for the whites and how they had to do the work for them. This can connect to the issue my group chose to study about which is poverty because during this age and period of time, racism, and inequality was quite common. There wasn’t really colonization between different races. This can connect to my empire, Ashanti, Africa because they’re facing poverty. According to brookings.edu 41% of Africa are suffering from poverty and out of 28 of the poorest countries, 27 of them are in Africa all above the poverty rate of 30%. This shows how much these people need the most help they can get. This can also connect to modern society and how, black lives matter and how there is a fight for equality. The UN development goal this can connect to is, “No Poverty,” because poverty is not only based on wealth, but it relates to fairness and equality and how they both need to be restored and revived.
