-->What are some examples of how Capitalism & coporate economics (Walmart/Walgreens/Target, etc) is creating challenges in your own island, community, state, nation that relates to this UN Goal / Issue?
I feel like in these corporate economics, pricing is a big thing and problem that we face especially in Hawaii. In Hawaii prices for everything are higher than the average due to our location. This can relate to my UN issue, poverty because the prices and economics in corporates like walmart, target, and walgreens etc. if the prices are expensive itʻs hard to avoid the inevitable problem of poverty. Our price of living in Hawaii is one of the main reasons people fall into poverty and in extreme cases even homelessness. -->Why is this something to consider: Do you see a specific (friends or family you know) with a personal connection to these issues that connect with poverty or other social challenges (and please try to find at least one) - what/who is it and why? This is something to consider because unlike many other things we canʻt change like the choices of our president, poverty is something that we can try to change. As a society we need to fight for a better and lower price of living. A personal connection I have to this problem would be certain family members like some of my auntys, uncles and cousins that are currently in poverty due to the expensive prices of Hawaii. Their solution was to leave behind their life and even family and move to somewhere more affordable. This is a sad solution because certain native people to Hawaii have to leave the one thing they know, this island in order to provide for their families and avoid or even get out of poverty. -->What, if anything, are you learning about how economic trends impact your Global issue and how has your understanding of the impacts of it perhaps influenced the way you see your group topic as a worthwhile challenge or problem to be addressed? I feel like it makes me more aware of the things that cause my global issue and this makes me view the problem much differently. This makes me realize that this problem is much bigger and has so many more effects than I realized. This always proves to us that this problem is worthwhile to research and try to stop. -->What are some examples of how IMPERIALIZATION / GLOBALIZATION is creating challenges in your own island, community, state, nation that relates to this UN Goal / Issue?
Imperialization occurs in many places even on our island of oahu. Specifically with our president which is a main form of influence and control. In one instance, he has taken away countless amount of jobs due to his proposal of the wall, his new project. This can later lead to poverty because of the recent loss of jobs which gives people the inability to provide for their families. -->Why is this something to consider: Do you see a specific (friends or family you know) with a personal connection to this (and please try to find at least one) - what/who is it and why? Some family members or even close family friends have fell into a hard time due to the loss of jobs. Itʻs hard for them to work when they aren't making any money. This has caused people maye not to fall into poverty yet but show early signs of someone in poverty. -->What, if anything, are you learning about Imperialization/Globalization and how has your understanding of the impacts of it perhaps influenced the way you see your group topic as a worthwhile challenge or problem to be addressed? This can help us understand more about our topic, poverty and even the effects and causes. Learning about these problem that not only our community face but the world face, can help us see the problem and how others are trying to fix that which can help us have more effective ideas to not only prevent but stop poverty. What are some examples of how COLONIZATION OR GLOBALIZATION is creating challenges in your own island, community, state, nation that relates to this UN Goal / Issue?
Colonization is creating challenges because a lot of the population in hawaii is seen to be in poverty. The cost of living is up and that is affects the amount of people in poverty. COlonization has affected the way we do things and the need to modernize. This modernization from western colonization makes the cost of living go up. Why is this something to consider: Do you see a personal connection to this (and please try to find at least one) - what is it and why? This is something to consider and think about because colonization has affected where we live and how we live.We should think about how things would on our island be without that influence. Our communities would be different and event he population would be different. What, if anything, are you learning about Colonization or Globalization and how has your understanding of the impacts of Colonization and/or Globalization perhaps influenced the way you see your group topic as a challenge or problem to be addressed I feel like this new knowledge of colonization and globalization has affected the way I see our project because I am able to see the problem we are researching, poverty, from multiple perspectives. We can see the growing problem and see how the past has affected that. What are some examples of your research topic in your own island, community, state, nation Some examples are our research topic, poverty, which is seen in island through homeless. Homelessness is a big growing problem that our island, state and even community face. This growing problem is an example of what results of poverty are. Why was this topic chosen by the group: what is a personal connection to the issue or just because you have to do something :) If a personal connection (and please try to find at least one) - what is it and why? After thinking about a lot of the problems our island faces we thought a big one that we see almost on a day to day basis, would be poverty. We not only wanted to talk about the topic of poverty but the overall effects it has and the one we tend to focus on would be homeless. Homelessness is a long lasting example of what poverty has caused. A personal connection that I have to this is the homeless people I see on drives l. Loads of homeless people on the sides of roads. This is hard to see and is something Iʻd like to change. It makes me realize how blessed I am to have good parents,a good school, and a roof over my head everyday. How can this topic change or improve the Hawaii we live in? For who? Does this audience connect with you in any way? If so, how & why.. do you have personal friends of family members that are or possibly could be in this audience? Our project can prevent more people from falling into poverty like people we cousins and family. What do you think of your ability to make an impact in the community & possibly make a difference in this issue? Why would that be important? What kinds of lessons do you think you will learn from this Kahiau experience? This can show other people that even small acts can make a big impact and that you should always try to help and prevent a problem. I will be talking about what my group and I have done over the break. There hasnʻt been major changes but little ones better than none. We have found what our volunteer work is going to be and where we would like to volunteer.
