One of the hot spots was north Korea. This is because they had a forgotten war. Communists in North Korea tried to expand to South Korea. Another hotspot was Vietnam. Vietnam was the American first used the French as proxies while the Soviets used the Vietminh. Lastly, Afghanistan would be the third hotspot. Afghanistan was where the USSR was directly involved while the US used the mujahideen as proxies.
The war to end all wars never really ended and didnʻt really end all wars. I think it lines up better with Socialism because we work together as a whole community. I think this is a threat because together we really could do anything, we delayed the building of TMT and not everybody that supported us was physically there on the Mauna as well. I agree that these systems are made for native people because the US government themselves donʻt run things themselves.

Having new technology developing through time is great but the way that they had dealt with it was wrong. A few of the weapons that were used were different types of machine guns, bombs, planes, and lastly ships that were able to carry up to 100 planes. I personally think that the planes and atomic bonds were extremely dangerous, which abused our lands and more importantly, our hearts. I just wish that the leaders back then would think into the future and how their actions could affect it. The cost of humanity was not worth the gain. These advancements continue to impact our modern society here in Moananuiākea and Hawaiʻi negatively. Itʻs sad that they couldnʻt do anything about it but just watch. The cost of our ʻāina and our ʻohana is not worth the any gain. These actions are wrong and without the right leaders, we can lose it all. Being able to watch Gandhi opened my mind to a whole new perspective. Seeing what they went through when being colonized made me connect that to my own kūpuna. When these people come in and just show up, they expect the people being colonized to just change in a second which includes our religion, our native tongues, our practices, everything. With the rabbit proof fence, in the ending Mr. Neville said something along the lines of, “if only they could understand what we’re doing for them.” This took me off guard because without those white-men, the Jigalong people would be able to sustain themselves. In the beginning scene, Molly and the other half-caste kids following her were hunting on their own. They brought back food to their mother and grandmother. What Mr. Neville doesn’t understand is that they native people do not need them. They don’t need to be changed into people they’re not.
Having that World War 2 had new technology, us people in Hawai’i did deal with a lot. Being that we were basically being colonized, Hawai’i had to fight for their rights of ʻāina and resoures. Our kūpuna believed that no land belonged to just one person because the land belonged to the higher power. They believed that if wegive, weʻll recieve which is why they were able to sustaint themselves for so long. When others came to the islands, they believed that the land could be seperated and that this piece of land was theirs specifically. This caused a lot of caos and unessasary things to happen. The Treaty of Versailles had several negative impacts on Germany. It was said that the treaty ended World War 1 but only in a way where it would satisfy France, Britain, etc. With this, if I were able to speak to the leaders during that time on behalf of Moaninuiākea, I would like to see where their minds are at. I feel as if leaders back then werenʻt able to truly see the bigger picture and how their actions could possibly affect everyone else's future. An important factor that I think would set up a nation to enact a war upon another nation is the lust for power. Throughout history, the common thread that was shown was that many nations went to war over the idea of power and the lust for more dominance over all others. Relating that to our kahiau project, it is that same lust for power but now it’s more wealth that turns into power is causing others to suffer a far worse fate. The backlash of people taking more than what they need just in pursuit of power is condemning people a harsher and hard life.
This connects to the current resurgence of the Hawaiian Identity because they are in very situations. Hawaiʻis revival or upcoming as a nation could have been a huge influence on many more colonizations going through a period of struggle. The modernity of the impact helped hawaiʻi learn that war was not an answer which is why our queen peacefully gave the nation and islands to the white men to protect and care for our people. Which the most peaceful act a Nation has done. The Treaty of Versailles was the most important document of the 20th century because of the fact that it did as the most important of the peace treaties that brought World War I to an end. The treaty required Germany to disarm, make ample territorial concessions, and pay reparations to certain countries that had formed the Entente powers. This benefited world peace for a 20 year time period until then WW2 began. But this treaty made the killings and death and this also caused Hawaiʻi to become a territory of the US. My biggest takeaway from the presentation was the power of manipulation and isolation. It specifically helped the Germans and Japanese to expand their land and become better empires. The treaty of Versailles set up the world for WW2 was because The Treaty set the stage for World War II in many ways. To demonstrate, this peace settlement blamed Germany for most things including starting the war and Germany was angry causing Germany to get back at them. Hitler promised all the Germans that he would improve the country if they voted him the ruler. It also impacted geography because Germany lost all of its land and resources which caused the revengeful outbreak. The pacific and Hawaii were called dips upon the US and other outer islands were territorialized by other countries. It was said to be that The Great War would end all wars, but it wasnʻt true. Instead, that war has been the cause of many more problems. This certain battle killed many people and left a lot of wounds too. In fact, A major player in the Great War was the national government because they held so many arguments to their people on why to sacrifices. The certain nations needed to learn how to keep foreign affairs and keep their power before another nation kicks in and takes control. Some new technologies or new inventions that arose as a result of the scientific revolution that impacted the Great War were tanks, automated machines, guns, Gatling guns, trench warfare strategies, submarines, and chemical warfare. Some new technologies continued to be utilized today that impact our modern warfare, for instance, improved machine guns, artillery, barbed wire, and ships. These new technologies have about 15 million people killed and 21 million wounded. This impacts our Kahiau project because as more nations go to war, there is always a bad end to it where poverty increases, such as exchanging of people or slaves, not affording houses or food. Or affording a job. Winning or losing a battle puts a whole nation at stake because they lose everything they own and the percentage of poverty to increase. The debt the nation falls into increases as well due to the money that has been used for warfare. The nation then falls into depression like features which affects the entire economy.
Leadership skills and life skills go hand-in-hand. They must have some foundational skills to give them more control over their own lives. Some of these skills are learned in academic classrooms, but many are not. Beyond basic verbal and written communication skills, young people need to learn how to present themselves with skills like respect, integrity, and honesty. By presenting these it will help the big and small pictures of our Kahiau Project. Also learning how to work well with others through collaboration and compromise, among many other essential life skills will benefit us greatly. Now looking back on the past, we can now learn from it and take steps to better the future of the people in Hawaiʻi. The people of Hawaiʻi need to give back to the communities and give what they donʻt need to the people that need it. Like the famous saying, "one personʻs loss is another personʻs gain." Also, we donʻt necessarily need to give physical necessities, we can give back by giving our time to help others too. We can donate to the homeless and give back to them, for they need it the most. And for the people high above the middle-class, they can provide them with job opportunities to better their own lives. We, as a human race, need to learn from our past to better the future of our planet and our species.
The most influential impact I had this year on my leadership growth is poverty. Our group chose to pay attention to poverty around our island because it is sad that a huge number of people have to live through this struggle that they didnʻt choose to live through. It could be from their past family issues, lack of money, or cost of living. We wanted to make a change and see a shift in our society causing more people to get off of the streets and not laying around parks.
My personal motivation is being able to see others experience a life I lucky have. I wish that ones whom struggle can at least feel a great life that there still is. Being down and in a hard time is very difficult to live. Being able to contribute somehow will make me happy. Our groups plan was to help the homeless people by donating a handful of canned foods and working with Hawaiʻi Food Bank. But,what ended up happening with the planned Community Service over Winter break did not follow through. My group was extremely busy during this entire break because we had basketball and soccer. Also we live far from each other. I live in Kāneohe with Jha but Kahiau and ʻAlohi live in waimanalo and pearl city.
What went well was our team planning was very successful but due to the unavailability of everyone. We failed to come through with our planning. We are currently trying to find ways to commit to our planning but as of now the struggle is time and distance. What we could've done better was sacrifice athletics for a day and do it but we had very tight and important schedules. Yes, it is improving very well since we had a discussion in class. My leadership skills are improving very well due to the examples im shown of great leaders. My group had a whole plan set out for us, but we sadly didnʻt accomplish it because we were all busy with sports. |
