Week 6Dani’s experience with the non-profit prior didn’t make the research for an organization difficult. But searching for events to engage in was a little harder because of conflicting schedules. Cooperating with an organization comprised of global citizens helped me understand their passion for making a difference in their community. The only pattern I noticed was that there were mainly small plastic rubbish and cigarettes. I’ve seen perspectives of the ones in charge, their overall active nature for their job. I often see these perspectives, especially in regards to our culture and our ancestors. It all connects back to them because of the resources they once had. I predicted and expected what kind of people we were going to interact with. I also knew the experience we were going to have when cleaning up. However, I didn’t expect it to be as rewarding. The staff really cared for the safety of their members and were inviting to us, non-members of their team. I sincerely believe that people who do service projects for a long time shows significant results. It can also encourage other people to join. Our project worked in terms of getting footage and photos for our presentation. What didn’t work was the time constraint. We were always busy and we had to work out a time when we could do an event. Overall though, this project was a great experience. Promotion PostersThis poster tells of the events that Sierra Club are doing in the events of April and May. It also informs about the organization and our Mana‘olana project. Kokan, Shiba. "The Great Wave off Kanagawa". Digital image. Reddit. Reddit, n.d. Web. 4 May 2017. This poster is for an individual event happening on Sunday, May 7. I've already mentioned this cleanup in previous posts but it's something to promote it. "The Great Wave of Kanagawa" by Shiba Kokan now has debris in it, to show the damaging effect that plastic can have to the beauty of the ocean. It ruins the aesthetic of it, which is the point that should be taken by the poster. Week 5We learned about global citizenship and how one can become one voluntarily. This project is aligned with the concept because Sierra Club deals with environmental issues, which is a problem not only locally but worldly. The organization is also made up of global citizens because they spontaneously contribute to the land. So this project not only creates global citizens out of us but also promotes global citizens. I've become more aware of conflicts around the world at school and also discovered conflicts in my community such as homelessness and debris. I realized how fortunate I was compared to others in the world and in my state. Giving back and doing volunteer work is the best way I can give back and help others. Week 4I found one promising event that I would like to partake in. There is a Sandy Beach cleanup with the Sierra Club of Hawai‘i organization on Sunday, May 7th. It starts at 8:00am and ends at 12:00pm. We'll be picking up trash and I hope others would like to come as well. It is a good deed for the ocean animals and the overall cleanliness of the beach. Week 3The emails that we sent in Week 1 was ineffective. Our plans for attending a service project didn't work out because of our schedules. Weʻre trying to find new projects to participate in. Week 2Weʻre deciding on the events that we want to promote such as hikes. Weʻre going to start making the posters and plan to distribute it to our classmates whether it be on our school broadcast or passing them out. Week 1 My partner and I sent emails to the Sierra Club, telling them about the project. We received positive responses. One of them said they were willing to help us and another suggested more organizations that could make our project better. We are going to reply to those emails with more information regarding the promotion flyers.
