Me and my group decided that for our Kahiau Project, we would give or volunteer at an non-profit organization which gives food to those in need. However, due to the fact that we were all unable to find an appropriate date and time for us all to get together, we were unable to finish it over the break. However, we still plan on fulfilling our Kahiau Project. As stated, for our Community Service, we planned on volunteering at an non-profit organization at which profits are given to those who may need it. Specifically, we planned to volunteer at the Hawaii Foodbank located in Honolulu. And again we were unable to participate in volunteering over the break, we still plan on fulfilling it. Some things I hope that go well while volunteering at the Hawaii Foodbank is that we will just be able to participate in helping not just the needy, but our people. At the end of the day, the majority of the people in need is our own. On top of that, I also hope that everything flows smoothly. That we will all be able to just enjoy the day and being able to be a help of hands. As I continue on with this Kahiau project, I am slowly starting to understand not only poverty but also many other issues that the human race face, all over the world. So yes, it would be correct to say that my understanding of poverty, especially in Hawaii, is improving. Poverty specifically, is the cause and effect to many issues; so, being able to study and learn more about poverty is good especially when trying to understand the many conflicts many of us face. I believe leadership is being exemplified as well as expanding while participating in this Kahiau Project. I say this because, I believe that many people should start to get into the habit of being a helping hands without expecting a reward in return. Our Hawaiian race especially, are the main people I believe that need to work on getting into this habit, especially since that was all our Kūpuna knew.
