1945-1960- three dozen new states in Asia and Africa achieved autonomy or total independence from their European colonial rulers.
In Africa alone after being decolonized they struggled and in the end European culture was still evident. All downfalls had underllying problems that kept building and seeping from other aspects of the countries. They were never fully solved, which then led to the decline and eventually downfalls. America has many underlying issues that are not being tended to, or are being handled the wrong way, which according to Galtung will help to decline the country.

By supporting capitalism, one supports other countriesʻ wealth and success rather their own. Big name companies such as Walmart practice capitalism, as much of their products are made in China or other labored countries. The money does not stay on island or in Hawaiʻi, therefore we receive no benefits other than the item itself. This contributes to the economical inequality problem because it creates yet a bigger drop for people in Hawaiʻi. By supporting big named brands, we take money and success away from our own people and in turn subconsciously sabotage ourselves.
What are some examples of how COLONIZATION OR GLOBALIZATION is creating challenges in your own island, community, state, nation that relates to this UN Goal / Issue?
Globalization affects the Hawaiian culture because as more Westerners settle in Hawaii, they take away more of the Hawaiian culture, as they create such a massive impact on our way of life. As they bring in more of their culture and beliefs, they tend to push ours out. Colonization affects the Hawaiian culture because the Western way and people are very controlling, and have a tendency to be greedy with their wants, stopping at nothing until they receive what they want. Being that such a vast amount of Westerners settle in Hawaii, they have caused much of the Hawaiian culture to be suppressed. Why is this something to consider: Do you see a personal connection to this (and please try to find at least one) - what is it and why? Yes, I do see a personal connection because I am a Hawaiian, and the culture is a part of who I am. If I canʻt practice and perpetuate it, I lose a part of who I am. I know that I have adapted many Western ways of life and ways of thinking, thus pushing my own culture under. What, if anything, are you learning about Colonization or Globalization and how has your understanding of the impacts of Colonization and/or Globalization perhaps influenced the way you see your group topic as a challenge or problem to be addressed? I believe that the way in which our nonprofit goes about their services shows prominent Hawaiian values. Thereʻs no doubt that at least one of the affected people (by the nonprofitʻs work) is a Hawaiian, and by helping them, they restore hope and give help to them. By picking them back up, they enable the person to become an active member of society, and hopefully work to perpetuate the culture. What are some examples of your research topic in your own island, community, state, nation? On my island, the number of homeless people is increasing. However, the number of those who are incredibly wealthy is increasing as well. The number of people walking on the streets with their belongings in a shopping cart has grown substantially - in the opposite direction in which it should be.
