CHRISTMAS BREAK Over Christmas break I got to spend a lot of time with my family. I got to go to the beach with my mom and my siblings on Christmas day, we went to Keikis to bodyboard. I also got to open several presents on Christmas day. I also got to go to the Hawaii Bowl with my family. I had a great time there watching the game even though they lost. Other than that I just worked out and went to baseball practice and baseball games. This past Christmas break was very fun and memorable. IMPERIALIZATION IN HAWAI'I NEI One example of imperialization in our own Hawaii nei is that the US came to Hawaii and illegally took over. This relates to our UN goal because when they came they took over making them at the top of the lists and the Hawaiians at the bottom. They always put themselves above the Hawaiian people thinking that they owned us. And when they came they only let the Hawaiians have low paying jobs that didn’t give enough money for them to buy enough resources for themselves. With this happening it lead them to becoming homeless and not having any jobs. And there are so many people that are homeless in Hawaii and have no job because of imperialization and globalization. This is something to consider because I have family members that used to be homeless. They couldn’t get jobs because there were other people getting the jobs that were from other places which led them to becoming homeless. This has influenced me to take this issue seriously because it could happen to anyone and you wouldnʻt want it to happen to you. I can see this as being a problem because there are so many people that are homeless in Hawai’i and we aren’t going to be able to help all of them out, and they can take it personally. Colonization and Globalization -One example of Globalization that relates to my topic is that there are some many people coming into Hawaii and don’t get jobs which leads them into becoming homeless. Or they are ex-veterans that end up living on the streets because they can’t get another job. -I think that this is something to consider because there are many people coming into Hawaii to start off fresh but they end up on the streets and not getting any jobs. This affects Hawaii because we are seen as “Paradise” but when you actually come here you see a bunch of homeless people all over and mainly in the places where there are many tourists. I can relate to this because some of my family are homeless because they can’t get any jobs because some people come here and they take up many of the jobs that the homeless people can’t get. -Colonization and Globalization has gave me a different understanding and a better understanding of our topic it relates to homelessness. It made me see that many of these people coming into Hawaii is because of colonization and globalization because they came here to work on the sugarcane and pineapple fields. And they brought in filipinos, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Chinese, etc. And they weren’t working at a high paying job which left them living together and eventually being homeless over the years because prices went up and they were still getting a low amount of pay. This is a problem to our groups project because it means that there are still going to be more people coming in and they are going to have anywhere to live or have any jobs which are going to lead them into becoming homeless. If Imperialization is: a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force; What are some examples of how Capitalism & coperate economics (Walmart/Walgreens/Target, etc) is creating challenges in your own island, community, state, nation that relates to this UN Goal / Issue? This creates challenges in our island because all of these Capitalism & corperate economics are relying on imported goods that come in from other countries. This is bad for our island because it is creating our own native people forget the ways of our ancestors. This relates to our UN goal because a lot of people canʻt afford to costs that these stores have because of the fact that they import their goods which costs a lot. This makes a lot of people unable to afford goods which makes them homeless. Why is this something to consider: Do you see a specific (friends or family you know) with a personal connection to these issues that connect with poverty or other social challenges (and please try to find at least one) - what/who is it and why? Yes I have a personal connection to this issue because I have family members that use to be homeless. My grandma and her daughter and her kids all used to be homeless because they couldnʻt afford to get goods and even a house. They had some social challenges because they were in poverty because they didnʻt have any money which made them poor relying on others to help them. What, if anything, are you learning about how economic trends impact your Global issue and how has your understanding of the impacts of it perhaps influenced the way you see your group topic as a worthwhile challenge or problem to be addressed? Well homelessness is a social problem with a variety of economic and social factors such as poverty, not being able to afford a house, physical and mental health, and addictions. We can see this as a problem to our groups topic because these are all the main factors which lead to someone becoming homeless. But this can be addressed by spreading the impacts of what causes people to become homeless which others can find a way to help them out. VLOG #1 VLOG #2 VLOG #3 VLOG #4VLOG #5DECOLONIZATION
