Homeless is a real problem in Hawaii. According to Hawaii News Now there are 46 in every 10,000 people that are homeless in Hawaii. The homelessness problem is getting better because it decreased 10 percent in one year. We still have higher homeless people than California, Massachusetts, and Nevada. We are at the same rate as New York.
Our topic is a problem in Hawaii because there are many homeless people living in Hawaii. Many of the homeless people are local. I think the reason why there are so many homeless people living in Hawaii is because the cost of living is high and the median income is low.I think we can make the homeless number lower by helping the homeless instead of sweeping them from areas because he'll just keep moving.
Our organization has been in Hawaii since 2006. Since then they have helped hundreds of families. They shelter up to 28 people a week seven days a week. Theyʻve recieved multiple awards since 2006 for there innovative approach on helping the homeless community.

--> (Your 1 goal + 2 other similar related Goals) that the UN seeks to support for the betterment of humanity-Chanson
Our goal is to stop poverty or at least help reduce the population of homeless in the world and our community. We strive to give more people homes and food so the homeless can live a better life. We hope to change the lives of individuals and families going through homelessness and bad poverty situations.
--> Reasoning of why the (1) Goal your group chose connects with your groupʻs project topic
Our goal connects to our topic because our topic is the Homeless in Hawaii. Our goal is to lower the homeless number in Hawaii. This problem is important to us because many of the homeless people in Hawaii are homeless. They are not able to afford to live in their own home because the cost to live here is high.

One of the poorest country in the world is Malawi in Africa. Poverty in Malawi has been at critical levels for decades. Of the 15.9 million Malawians, about 12 million are living below the international poverty line ($1.25 a day) and approximately 14.3 million are living on less than $2.00 a day, according to the Rural Poverty Portal. Many Malawians work in agriculture, and it is hard for them to produce enough crop to maintain an income above the international poverty line. With parental death, disease and crop failure, the obstacles that many Malawians face are abounding. Their is a company called “Open Arms Malawi” that believes that every child has a right to survival and development. Their principal aim is to provide care to Malawi’s vulnerable children, supporting them within families and communities so that they can thrive.
Colonization, imperialization, and globalization have been a downfall of so much different indigenous races and peoples. Globalization is trying to unify the world economically, through foreign trade, reductions of trade tariffs and the removal of exporting fees. Globalization attempts to use foreign markets for trade as well to provide new development opportunities for production employment in foreign countries. It sounds like a good thing but the process of doing it is not. It tears apart indigenous people and their homes. It does not help the country being globalized but in fact the other trying to globalize it.
North Korea has always been a dangerous 3rd world country, even before their Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un since 2011 and Leader of the Workers' Party of Korea since 2012. The government’s jingoistic approach to diplomacy has had many negative effects on its citizens. With each action that alienates North Korea from the rest of the world, the country weakens the strength of its relationships with allies. The recent sanctions from China demonstrate this. This has a dramatic impact on the economy of the nation, leading to higher debt and poorer civilians. Most citizens live in poverty, earning less than $30 a month. Households suffer frequent electric outages and enjoy only just a few luxuries.
First, James Cook arrived in Hawaii on January 18, 1778. This was the first example of Colonization for Hawaii because cook had intentions to stay because he was praised by the Hawaiians. Secondly In 1819, Liholiho Abolished the Kapu system because of influence by Kaʻahumanu. Kaʻahumanu knew that Hawaii was westernizing so abolishing the Kapu system could lead to more global advancements. Thirdly, the Missionaries came in March 30, 1820. The Missionaries introduced disease and religion and change the outlooks of the Hawaiian and made them believe that their Gods didnʻt exist. Finally, the Overthrow of Queen Liliuokalani on January 17, 1893 was Hawaiiʻs first Overthrow by outside forces. It forever changed Hawaii and is still celebrated until today
Colonization began when foreigners came to Hawaii. When they came they started claiming land. When they started doing this they put high prices on the land. Now colonization started the problem so the Hawaiian people cannot afford to live here because only rich foreigners can live here.

->How does economic theories like Capitalism & Communism impact or cause global issues like poverty?
These theories affect poverty because private people control the trade and industry of a place rather than the state. When private people do it they can control the cost of things and make it too expensive for people to afford.
-->Which economic idea is better: communism or capitalism?
Capitalism is better. Communism Doesn't Work No economic system is perfect, and communism is certainly no exception. Although the idea that everyone should have equal amounts of money for equal amounts of labor is attractive, this idea fails in practical application. Some people aren't willing to do their share, and power ends up in the hands of a very few people.
-->Does Capitalism still work? Does Capitalism cause poverty? Or social injustice?
Capitalism does work for the owners of the business but not the greatest for the community, endless the community works there. Sometimes Capitalism can cause poverty if all the business goes to that privately owned business.
--> Who is / what is Karl Marx economic theory & what did he say about capitalism?
Karl Marx explained how they thought capitalism was unsustainable and how the capitalist society that existed at the time of the writing would eventually be replaced by a socialist one. His theory was the labor theory of value, this theory stated that the value of a produced economic good can be measured objectively by the average number of labor-hours required to produce it. In simpler terms if a TV takes twice as long to make a table, then the TV should be considered twice as valuable.
--> As a result of World Wars I & II, how did the Cold War period and a renewed focus on capitalism & corporate businesses perhaps contribute & setup your particular global issue?
During World War II, the United States and the Soviet Union fought together as allies against the Axis powers. However, the relationship between the two nations was a tense one. Americans had long been wary of Soviet communism and concerned about Russian leader Joseph Stalin’s tyrannical, blood-thirsty rule of his own country.

Find (1) positive/desirable & (1) negative/undesirable example of a time in History European Power decolonizing a colony (focus on the colony decolonization experience) -
(1) compare and contrast both to Hawaiiʻs situation as it relates to your Kahiau topic.
For example, how have/would these decolonized nations faced an issue like Poverty and how have they addressed it as a decolonized nation?
In some areas, it was peaceful, and orderly. In many others, independence was achieved only after a protracted revolution. A few newly independent countries acquired stable governments almost immediately; others were ruled by dictators or military juntas for decades, or endured long civil wars. One positive example of time in European Power that decolonized a colony is they were safer then they would by on their own like how Hawaii is a part of America so they are stronger now . One negative example of time in European Power that decolonized is economic contradictions such as 'overproduction relative to demand', unemployment and the increasing costs of climate change; The topic of our kahiau project is poverty and homelessness. Our project can relate to Hawaii because Hawai’i has homeless everywhere and the number of homeless people grows every year as prices increase everyday. So our project is to help the homeless find homes.
