Nainoa Thompson: The most important iLeader trait for Nainoa Thompson is Interprets loyalty, respect, and prestige. This is an important trait because Nainoa Thompson travels all over the world and when he goes to new areas he needs to show the area respect. According to EBSCO Nainoa Thompson says he doesnʻt want to assume Hokūleʻa is welcomed in a place they donʻt know. You need to have that respect because Hokūleʻa represents Hawaiʻi and you donʻt want people to think bad about Hawaiʻi. Also you donʻt want to create rivalries and anger to someplace you go. Koʻiahi Pūnua - Empire and iLeader
In this Hybrid Blended environment in World History I have learned that there are many things that we can connect to Hawaiʻi from other places around the world. There are similar events that occur that can be connected to us. There are lots of things with ʻike kūpuna and being able to carry on the legacy of their ancestors and family. The empire I researched was the Russian empire and I was able to connect it to Hawaiʻi because the stories are very similar to what happened in Hawaiʻi. The Russian empire was based on a monarchy and fulfilling family dynasties and legacies. Unfortunately the last reigning of Russia was overthrown and assassinated. This is very similar to Hawaiʻi because our queen, Liliʻuokalani was also overthrown and Hawaiʻi was ruled by a monarchy.
What Iʻve learned about World History through a Hawaiian/Indigenous lens is that what happens in World History can relate back to Hawaiʻi. In World History I learned to connect what I was learning back to Hawaiʻi. When I did this I noticed that events that happen can relate back to Hawaiʻi. For example when the U.S was using islands in Micronesia as bomb test sites that ruined the islands and made it uninhabitable for Micronesians. Since it was uninhabitable, Micronesians moved to Hawaiʻi and couldn't live in their home land. This shows how something that happened in Micronesia can relate back to Hawaiʻi.
