Colonization sets up and impact my Kahiau Project topic, which focus on gender equality and homelessness. It impacts this topic because colonization is about domination and power and the whole reason gender inequality is an issue is because of someone having more resources or opportunities than the other. It is said that in low income countries, for every hundred boys who continue their education after high school, only fifty-five girls do the same. This shows that since men are most likely to have more education than girls this gives them the opportunity to gain more power. Getting good education allows you to get a good job and since it's not as easy for girls to get an education at is is for boys, it allows the men to dominate. Macmillan, P. The Industrial age & the Revolutions that occur set up and impact my Kahiau project, which focuses on the issue gender equality. These revolutions are mainly impacted or caused by leadership and the gains or affects of power. In this case it connects to gender equality because over the years it's known that men have been given more opportunities than women, which allows them to gain power and be more in control. This shows how this problem of gender equality has affected the choice of leaders in our world today. The revolutions that occur impact my Kahiau project because it shows how important leadership is being affected given that men have more opportunities than women. How does understanding these things in History as well as knowing our cultural history through language, culture, and activism in the community, help us to navigate for a solution of these problems here in Hawaiʻi?
I learned that art can be used to showcase and highlight social concerns in history and modern society. Through art you are able to express your feelings in thoughts through a more creative way. Being able to do this could help make your issue more known and understandable to many people around the world since everyone comprehends/learn things in a different way. Art could also help express emotions you thought you never felt before and it could also help you make connections with people around the world. For example Dania, a poem write, expresses her feelings about her experiences she's been through through writing. Writing poems and sharing them has helped her make connections and find out that many more people go through the things she is going through and she is not alone. So not only can art help your issue to be known or understood but it could also allow you to make personal connections to people. In my poem I focused on telling more about my home and the importance of one. A home is not just house or place but it's somewhere you feel safe and comfortable in. A home also can't just be a place but could also be a person an object or a feeling. In this case, my poem focuses on my home which is Hawaiʻi and a specific place that brings me a feeling of safety is the beach. So I decided to just express my feelings on how important and meaningful this place is to me by expressing my thought while i'm in my safe place. The most important connection between World History and current event advocacy is learning and being aware of important events going on around the world. World History allows me to learn and to better understand the problems going on around the world today. Current event advocacy helps me then to take those issues I’ve learned about and to choose some I’m passionate about and want to learn more about. Then creating solutions and ideas to this issue is what advocacy helps me do which eventually will spread awareness for current events going on around the world. The most impactful idea or concept that I’ve gained through this unit about the importance of media advocacy is that everyone has a voice and there’s nothing that you can not do. Since this generation is kind of fixated on technology these days there's no excuse for us to not use social media for a good use. This also goes along with not being scared to put your voice and thoughts out there about current events going on around the world. As long as you are able to have a positive mindset and as long as you put your mind and hard work into it then you shouldn’t have a problem. Rosenthal, A. (2019, September 18).
