The skills and content taught to me in World History this year is valuable and interesting. The iLeader project as well as learning about major historical events helped to open my eyes to how much connections can be made from events that were hundreds of years apart. I was able to make connections to see how the indigenous people are always treated with little to no respect, and how history continued to repeat itself. I was able to link the value systems of leaders and show how they are so alike, yet so different. For example, the two people I researched for the iLeader project both attempted to stand up for their people, However Te Rauparaha chose to achieve this through violence, and Walter Ritte chose to achieve it through protest.
I learned many skills in World History that I can take with me to use in other classes and future projects. I was taught a lot of useful skills that I can take with me and use later on in life, like photoshop editing. This was very useful because the ability to use technology in my every day life is more important than ever. It becomes more and more vital that we learn how to use the technology available to us to strive for the best we could possibly have. Another helpful skill that I learned is PEEL paragraphs to help enhance my argumentative writing. PEEL paragraphs help to shape my writing into a structure that helped clean up my argumentative writing as well as reinforcing my points, and help me during socratic sessions I have learned about many interesting things and we have covered many intriguing topics. Something that I found interesting is the course that how humans have evolved over the course of history. From hunting and gathering to becoming the most advanced species on our planet capable of many things. It is amazing how we have been able to use processes like the industrial revolutions, like harnessing electricity, and how we have been able to learn and study to figure out how forces like gravity work. The Kahiau project connects skills with world history and current day issues. Our SDG was no poverty, and this ties in to the Great Depressions where we saw a spike in homeless and unemployment rates, This is very similar to what is happening in Hawai’i as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the pandemic many people lost their jobs due the lack of money, companies are pulling in, and having to lay people off to keep these companies afloat.
