Admittedly, I do believe I walk away from this class more knowledgeable. I can’t in good conscience say I thought everything we learned about was interesting, but I can say it was valuable. I’m especially grateful for our Bellwork. Now I can name a bunch of countries and when I look at a map I actually know what I’m looking at. For example, I’d like to use a TikTok as evidence, “ https://www.tiktok.com/@justin_awad/video/7046173911255436550?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc&web_id=6984191123737904646 “ In this TikTok a man walks around a mall and interviews several people on basic facts about the World. They all fail to answer correctly demonstrating how little they know. Leaving this class I can proudly say if anyone ever comes up to me and asks me to name 3 countries besides America, I’ll be able to not embarrass myself.
To name two new skills I learned this year, map reading, and note-taking would have to be the ones. Yes these are basic skills, okay actually I’ll reword that. Map reading and note-taking are 2 skills I’ve built upon this year and solidified. Before this year, yes I could read a map and take notes. However. Now I can read a map and comprehend what I’m seeing, and cross-reference it with other geography and world history related facts I’ve learned. Additionally, now I can take notes well, I can take clear concise notes that are easy to read and understand. I’ve also learned how to pick out the important things to write down and I can do it quickly. Proven by the many, many, many, notes I had to take this year. The flip lectures, the zoom lectures, the teacher lectures, all translated into pages and pages of notes. The most interesting subject I think I learned about this year was Ancient Civilizations. During our iLeader project I had a lot of fun. I just think it’s really interesting. Ancient civilizations that is. My group reported on the West African Kingdom, we researched their trade routes, their social system, the hierarchy, the technology, the wars. It’s honestly crazy to think about how these were humans, just like me, just like you, but they didn’t have school or jobs at least in the way we do now. They traded gold and salt, walking with camels on long sandy roads. That’s why I find it so interesting. The Kahiau project isn’t one of the more interesting projects we’ve done in my opinion. Our SDG was Quality Education. This has always been a problem, since the beginning of time people haven’t had the ability to get a good education, a century or so ago, only men could go to school, now in the modern era, certain countries just don’t have the money for education. So yes it connects. I just personally don’t find it all that interesting. Though it’s probably because Quality Education isn’t the SDG I wanted to learn about, if I recall correctly I requested Gender Equality, and I dislike school in general so it is not like I would choose to pursue a good education given a choice. So more like nothing on the assignment it’s got the right idea, it is only me.
