The Kahiau Project is something that helps make connections between historical events and current issues we face, for example current issues we face is homelessness which is what I talked about in my project. I was able to connect homelessness to various historical events that I didnʻt even know were connected to homelessness or had an affect on homelessness like wars, natural disasters, etc. I would definitely use this website or project as one of my graduating capstones because this project and everything I did in this class was my best work and shows not only other people but ME what I'm capable of when I set my mind to something.
I have gained so much knowledge and experiences from this Hybrid Blended environment. I have learned to have way better time management and to just do things without being asked. I have learned many different things about history that I had no clue about and also different countries I didnʻt even know were on this planet. I learned how to write P.E.E.L. format which I will definitely be using in my future endeavors, this class has taught me many things and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to take it with the people I took it with and the teacher who taught me.

1 July 2021 Current Event Analysis Homelessness and Poverty is a major problem in the country Sudan study says By Lisa Schlein,VOA Sudan – 1 July 2021 Summary: On July 1st in the year 2021 there was research done about the homelessness and poverty that goes on in the country Sudan located in Africa. This site talks about people in need and the homeless people of Sudan. It talks about how many people there are and what actions are being taken. In this news article it talks about a storm that has caused hundreds of thousands of people to go homeless. There is a a organization called GENEVA which is an aid agency that is trying frantically to help out more than 16,000 ethiopean homeless people. It also talks about how the storm destroyed 4 to 10,000 homes, making thousands homeless(Storms Render Thousands of Ethiopian Refugees in Sudan Homeless, 2021). The civilization of Sudan is suffering and there are other effects of homelessness being present. For example ethnic tensions are escalating into violence due to breakdowns in the rule of law. Floods continue to be a life-threatening hazard and infections such as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), cholera, polio, and chikungunya are still common. The Bias in this article is that homlessness needs to be helped. This article also begins to talk about UNHCR which is an organization that is helping to build homeless shelters, roads, and “A total of 10,000 emergency shelter kits are planned for distribution with an additional 5,000 in reserve” (Storms Render Thousands of Ethiopian Refugees in Sudan Homeless, 2021). Geography Theme: One of the themes of geography is location. The location has a lot to do with the people that find themselves homeless. This article relates to this theme because it talks about certain things that happened which lead to homelessness but then gave their solution to this problem. As an example according to Sudan Appeal , “The economic crisis is causing widespread malnutrition; lapses in the rule of law are allowing ethnic tensions to erupt into violence; flooding remains life-threatening; and diseases, including coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), cholera, polio and chikungunya, remain prevalent”(Sudan Appeal, 2021). After that quote it goes on to the different things that they are going to do and what they are doing to fix this problem. In the Sudan Appeal it talks about all these problems but it is not a surprise because it also talks about the same problem in the VOA news article. Geography is very important to this event. But in order to find a solution to this problem we must first know what geography is. Geography is the study of the physical features of the earth and its atmosphere, and of human activity as it affects and is affected by these. Including the distribution of populations and resources, land use, and industries. All of these things that have to do with geography are very important and important to this event or homelessness, for example industries. If there were enough industries then there wouldnʻt be homlessness because there would be enough jobs and people would be able to make enough money so they can have a place to live, sleep, eat, and just have the simple things that we have. Second would be location and location is just natural selection, it just so happened that Africa or Sudan was dealt a bad hand. My 3rd and final example of why geography is important to this event is human activity, being homeless is sometimes people's own fault, they either do drugs or they make a mistake and make a bad choice that they shouldnʻt have and end up homeless. Human activity has many things to do with homlessness which is my event and it also has to do with geography and that is the reason why geography is so important to my event. Reaction: My reaction to this article was scared, sad, but also surprised at the same time. At first I felt scared because there are so many people going homeless and I was thinking about how easily this could happen to me. I was scared because it is so easy for someone to become homeless and I donʻt want that for myself, I want to have a family and a house and a dog. I want all the joys of life and becoming homeless would take all of that away from me which is why at first I was scared that the things happening to these people would happen to me. My second feeling or reaction was a feeling of sadness, I felt sad for all the millions of people who are suffering. In the Sudan Appeal article it talks about how there are over 13.4 million people enduring complex, interconnecting challenges in Sudan. 7.4 million of these people are children my age and younger (Sudan Appeal, 2021). This made me sad because I started to think of all the things I have and how grateful I am to have it. I also felt sad because these statistics are only in Sudan, imagine the impact there is on the whole world. 13.4 million people are homeless and that's only in 1 country, it breaks my heart to know there are people suffering while I am living the life. This article and overall project has been an eye opener to how many privileges and good things that I have in my life. My last reaction that I had from this article was surprised because of how many people are homeless. I thought there would be maybe a couple thousand but no, there are 13.4 million people only in Sudan who are homeless and to me this was very surprising and a very big shock. Connection/Analysis: The World History theme related to this article is advocating for change. In the article it shows statistics and how many homeless people there are in Sudan. This has to do with advocating for change because it brings attention and gets people to notice this problem. People can't change something they donʻt know about so this article is making people know about it by showing them what is going on so that people can make a change. This website is also advocating for change by actually doing something about homelessness and trying to fix this problem. They have 330,000 children admitted for treatment for severe acute malnutrition, 2.8 million people accessing a sufficient quantity of safe water, 203,200 women and children accessing gender-based violence risk mitigation/ prevention/response, and 2,434 schools implementing safe school protocols (Sudan Appeal, 2021). This website is advocating for change and is giving statistics but the VOA news article is giving general information about what happened in Sudan, they are bringing awareness and helping other people to know there is a problem that needs to be helped. If they can get people to notice this problem then everyone can start making a change before it is too late. Voice of America. https://www.voanews.com/africa/south-sudan-focus/storms-render-thousands-ethiopian-refugees-sudan-homeless Yes there are common themes that can be applied when we consider Maiau Quality, a Hard Work Ethic, and the kuleana of leadership to our ʻohana, communities and lāhui. Maiau Quality work for me is keeping myself accountable and getting my work done even when other people in my group donʻt. Quality Maiau for me is when I get my work in on time and with my best effort on the assignment. If I spend at least 2-3 hours of work on an assignment then and only then will that be my best and most quality maiau work. Being able to work and focus on an assignment also relates to hard work ethic. Having a hard work ethic means to not procrastinate, turn things in on time, not get distracted when I'm working, and try my best and hardest no matter how many assignments there are. Hard work ethic is when you can work for as long as it takes to get something done but this doesnʻt always have to be for school. Hard work ethic can be for working out, doing a job and even simple things like doing your chores. Work ethic to me is not giving up and striving to be the best that I can. Having a hard work ethic is just not giving up and not doing a job half way, hard work ethic is when you finish something and you do it to your best ability just like maiau quality work.
A common theme between our hard work and the kuleana to our leadership is hard work. Being a leader is hard work, it is not an easy job to be a leader. Having a good work ethic is being able to work hard and that is exactly what you will need to be a leader and that is the common theme. Another common theme would be patience, when you have a good work ethic you are patient, you take your time and you never rush. But you also need to have patience when you are a leader because your group members, family, or communities might be a little bit slower so you need to be patient and go slower, helping your lahui, ʻohana, and community. Another similar theme between quality and maiau work would be to have good time management. Without time management you wonʻt have enough time to finish your work therefore not being able to get it in on time. Yes, the idea of self-efficacy through advocacy is something that I might find valuable for my future. I find this valuable because I find my goal valuable and if I believe in something or I want something done then it gets done. If I have self efficacy and advocacy in the future then I will be able to focus on what I NEED to do and not what I WANT to do. For example if I have self efficacy and advocacy then I would do my homework in college instead of going to a party, but If I donʻt have it then I will end up just going to that party and blowing off my homework. By blowing off my homework I am blowing off my future. Blowing off my future is something I do not want which is why yes, I do find self efficacy and advocacy something valuable for my future but also in my now.
In the future I will use this skill set in my everyday life. Self efficacy can be used in anything and so can advocacy. Having these skill sets will over all help me in whatever I choose to do. If I decide later to help out in my community than having self efficacy and advocacy would help me cause I would stay motivated to keep going and not give up. Self efficacy and advocacy can honestly help in everything and having that trait is just such a good advantage over not having it. Over all self efficacy and advocacy is something that I value and something I believe will help me very much in my future to come. Learning the skills to do my iLeader project was worth my time. During this iLeader project i learned many new skills that i can apply to many other projects or things in my life. For example I learned how to use photo shop and this can help me when I have another project for a different class just in case I need to make a poster or do anything else. So overall yes, having the skills I have from doing photoshop was very worthwhile and I will continue to use the skills that I have picked up.
