LIFE ON LAND

Wintecommunity service reflection
What did you and your group get done for the Kahiau Project over Break?
Because I am a boarder, I did my community service and project seperate from my group. I attended a 3 day food sovereignty camp with the non-profit organization Nā Pua Nōʻeau. I was able to follow through with my plan, because I was able to complete my community service and have fun with it!
In my opinion I think everything went well! Because I had already planned to attend this event similar to the ones Iʻve done in the past, I was comfortable with the program and was able to have fun with my friends! Every farm or business that we visited, I was able to learn the importance of knowing what we eat and where it all comes from.
The subject that I focused on for my community service was life on land, or better known as aloha ʻāina. With this program, our focus was to learn how to sustain ourselves without having to depend on food providers such as the barge. For instance, when the day comes that we have a natural disaster, the barge is going to stop coming. This would be bad considering we depend on 90% of the barge, therefore we wouldnʻt be able to take care of ourselves. This is a big reason why a lot of the framers chose this career because they want their hard-work to have an impact for generations to come!
