Our first leader was Jasaw Chan Kaʻawiil I. He was born some time before 682 A.D. He ruled over the Mayan empire, specifically over Tikal. He ruled over Tikal from 682-734 A.D. One of the biggest impacts he had to the Mayan empire was his knowledge for improving it. He built things that improved the Mayan society as well as building great temples built for him and is wife for their burial which is still an iconic temple to this day. This leader showed hard work and perseverance which are very strong leadership qualities. The next leader we chose to write about was Nainoa Thompson. He was born on March 11, 1953 and is still alive today. Nainoa has impacted Hawai’i my leading the revival of the traditional voyaging arts. This was in modern day Hawai’i as well. He is a very skilled navigator with many leadership traits which is why we decided to choose him. On his journeys he navigates without the use of technology, instead he uses different means like the stars. He also become president of the Polynesian Voyaging Society in 1975 so you know he has good leadership qualities. The Empire that I was assigned was the Safavid Empire, and the leader that I chose was Shah Abbas. He was born onJanuary 27, 1571. He died at the age 58 on January 19, 1629, he reigned from 1588-1629. Shah Abbas had 13 kids in all, one son he executed, he blinded two and also blinded his brothers and father then imprisoned them because they annoyed him or caused him trouble. We do not know what happened to his other kids but he died without an heir which we could possibly assume that he either blinded or killed them.He expelled Ottoman and Uzbek troops from what was known as the Persian land and by creating a strong standing army with over 40,000 combatants and a lot of artillery. He also made the capital of Persia to Eṣfahān and fostered commerce and the arts, Persian artistic achievement reached a very high point in his reign. Shah Abbas was the only one who could unite Persia. He established a code of laws called the Ashariya (twelver) Shi'ism, which made Farsi as the state language, and saw the ottoman empire as enemies and left his nation economically prosperous, and free. The person from Hawaiʻi that I compared him to was Haunani-Kay Trask. Haunani-Kay Trask is a Hawaiian nationalist, educator, political scientist, author, and professor emeritus at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.Producer of the award-winning documentary Act of War: The Overthrow of the Hawaiian Nation (1993), winning nine different awards in three different countries. Trask helped to establish the Gladys Brandt Kamakakuokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

For my leaders, the places that were given to me, were Hawai’i, and Africa. I researched about Osei Bonsu, and Queen Lili’uokalani. Bonsu was a leader between the years 1804-1824. It does not say when he was born, but his death was January 21, 1824. His impact to his community was that he was a great person in war, to lead others, but he was also kind to his people. Queen Lili’uokalani was born in 1838, and died on November 11, 1917. She was a leader between 1877-1893, when she was overthrown. She was very kind and humble to everyone, and tried to help everyone. For Osei Bonsu’s icon, I chose the Okyeame poma, which was very valuable to Asanti. For Queen Lili’uokalani, I chose her book that she wrote while she was in her ‘prisonment’ in her castle, because it was very important to see what she had gone through, and it shows what leadership things that she had to go through. Then the leadership terms that I picked was Trustworthy, wisdom, Humbleness
My leaders are based in Italy and Hawaiʻi. The top portion is dedicated to Israel Kamakawiwo'ole who was he was born on May 20th 1959 and sadly passed on June 26th 1997 a native Hawaiian ukulele player, singer-songwriter, and activist Israel “IZ™” Kamakawiwo`ole, rendition of “Over the Rainbow” changing the face of Hawaiian music. advocacy for the islands’ values and culture, because of that I chose an ukulele as his icon. Although he never has influence as an government labelled official he still has many Hawaiian hearts to follow in his way. Kamakawiwo`ole referred to as the “Voice of Hawai`i.”. The bottom portion is for Andrea Gritti who was a diplomat for Venice Italy. Andrea was born on April 17th 1455 and passed away on December 28th 1538, he was a merchant and trader from western Europe with great skill both as diplomat and military strategist. After his military career he was doge of Venice from 1523 to 1538. The symbol I chose for Andrea was his coat of arms indicating his place of leadership. I believe they show aloha (love) hōʻihi (respect) kuleana (responsibility). Because they took charge of their homelands to make it a better place and thrive off of diplomacy of the countries. They took care of their people when others couldn't.
