Colonization has impacted our kahiau project(climate change) in many ways. The most obvious and important way colonization has impacted climate change is by spreading fossil fuels everywhere. The Europeans invented machines that were used to create things with the power of coal. As they went to different places and "discovered" people, they used this to their advantage. An example of this is Hawaii or America. They colonized the people of Hawaii and took them over and spread their technology to the Pacific. This is also the same situation as America. The Native Americans were barbarically killed and the Europeans took their land. This allowed Europeans to spread the power of coal(fossil fuels) to other places in the world and in the end causing global warming. Imperialism changes our understanding of things as Natives because it is taking away everything that is important to our culture. Especially because white people do it through force, it creates fear in the natives. This makes it hard for us to find a solution to climate change here in Hawaii because people feel suppressed. They feel as if their voice doesn't matter. A perfect analogy of this is when people vote. Many people such as blacks or asians donʻt vote because they feel scared and suppressed. In the same sense Hawaiians think that their ideas donʻt matter and will never matter. This is problem but I think over the recent years Hawaiians have found their voice. We as people are getting more confident to use our voice and be heard. References

Bored Panda. https://www.boredpanda.com/looking-into-the-past-jason-powell/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=organic During the silk road, this was a time before humanity contributed a large amount to climate change. I like to think back to this era because of how people were able to communicate and trade so well, while not impacting our Earth in a negative way. In our modern day society it would be helpful to look back during the times of silk road and learn from it. Today, we use fossil fuels to fuel cars, electricity, and produce 80% of our energy needs. This is creating an excess amount of co2 into our atmosphere, causing our Earth to rapidly heat up. If we could be able to communicate at a large scale like how people did during the silk road, this could be a way to be more environmentally clean and fix out climate. In addition to the silk road, many people were expanding their empire, business, and economy. All while not destroying our planet. We can also look back into history and use those ideas to be innovative. If we do this potentially can be a solution to help global warming while not effecting, our economy or social aspect of life. Exploration and enlightenment are both major time periods of technology revolution. This has its pros and cons. Although we were able to create steamboats, electric motors, automobile, etc, we were also creating serious problems for our planet. At the time we may not have known that we were making a problem and the issue would get as big as it is today. When the Europeans started to explore, they found coal and eventually turned this into fuel. This period of time was called the industrial revolution. In conjunction we also had the enlightenment period. I think that the enlightenment time was very influential, and helped form the morals and society we have today. I donʻt think this has a big affect on climate change. However, if we could have another enlightenment period it could help people become aware of the problems we are facing. Such as climate change, racism, and lgbtq+ rights. In 2020, during quarantine people around the world are becoming aware of how many social and environmental issues there are to fix. I think that if this continues to happen it will help the problem of climate change. For example, the BLM has helped with racism. We could do something similar to the BLM for climate and it will make a huge difference. References Beck, T. (2017, October 17).
