One good example of decolonization in history was when the founding fathers of America separated from Britain. When British people set sail to find new land and explore new areas for new materials, they found what was soon to be called America. Over the years spent there, Britain abused their power over the colonies and the colonies rebelled. They soon began to start a revolution and become their own nation, that nation was to be called the United States of America and it is home to where I live this day. This decolonization connects to us here in Hawaii because soon maybe one day if Hawaii, if able to sustain itself, we’ll be able to “decolonize” from America and be able to provide our own food for the people that live here. We may not be actually decolonizing from America but we are metaphorically decolonizing from the dependence on America giving us shipments everyday. This’ll also help us with another problem, pollution. Since the use of shipments wouldn’t be necessary, our lives of pollution free oceans could help our ecosystem and native wildlife drastically.

Companies such as Walmart have things shipped to our island from the continent. With these ships there have been many that have been overturned multiple times. With the overturning, burning, and sinking of these ships came the pollution of the ocean. Although not all of these incidents have taken place near Hawaii, the ocean is just a big swimming pool so any of these incidents would and have affected us.
Over the course of the Hawaiian kingdom, we have been impacted by many people in positive and negative ways. One of the most memorable actions that impacted our kingdom was the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy. The coming of foreigners alone affected us greatly. The foreigners brought many diseases causing our population the drop drastically. After killing off a big part of our society, they illegally took over our kingdom. Looking at the effects of the overthrow today, there are protesters that are going to jail, overused resources, and polluted water. One of the main examples of how the U.S. polluting our water is when they used Pearl Harbor as a doc for their ships. The oil killed the sea life.
The name “United Nations” was originally used on January 1st, 1942, by the United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the Declaration by United Nations during the Second World War, when representatives of 26 nations pledged their governments continuous fight against the Axis Powers. Later, in 1945 representatives of 50 countries met in San Francisco at the United Nations Conference on International Organization to draw up the United Nations Charter. The Charter was then signed on June 26th, 1945, by the representatives of the 50 countries, later to become 51 after Poland signed becoming the original 51 member states. Due to the powers vested in the Charter drawn up as well as its unique character international character, the United Nations handles issues confronting humanity in the 21st century. Some of these issues being peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, human rights, etc. In addition to this, the UN also allow their members to express their views on the other bodies and committees by providing a forum. The organization has become a mechanism for governments to work together in solving global problems.
