Affects of the Agricultural and Industrial RevolutionThe shift from the Agricultural Revolution to the Industrial Revolution was extremely impactful to unemployment in our ancient empire. Although the surplus of food during the Agricultural Revolution allowed for more time other than farming this ultimately lead to unemployment. With more free time on their hands aside from building new technology this free time also lead to an increasing population. The population surplus meant that there wasn't enough jobs to go around. To sum it up more people mean fewer jobs for the population. Currently, Indiaʻs population is continuing to grow.
The ongoing flux of the industrial age continues to extremely impact our unemployment problem because in India the population rate is going up at a fast pace which is leading to people spending less money on food and working more to get money. They have illiteracy, malnutrition, and lack of access to financial resources to better their lives. Currently, India is suffering from diseases and that is also causing a huge impact on our place. In Hawaiʻi, the challenge of poverty is seen every day. One common example of poverty in Hawaiʻi that is a constant battle is homelessness. In comparison to different states, for example, in New York, the rate of homelessness is 302 homeless citizens for every 100,000 residents occupying some type of home. Compared to Hawaiʻi, this number is small. The homelessness rate in Hawaiʻi is 505 homeless citizens for every 100,000. Although the numbers may not look that big, Hawaiʻi has the highest rate of homeless in the country. Revolution
Something needs to happen in order for people to come together and fight for a specific cause. It could result in violence or peace. People were treated poorly and unfairly so they decided that they had enough of it and fought against their government.

Today in Modern Hawaiʻi we see a handful of signs of revolution. Currently here in Hawaiʻi, Hawaiians are fighting against the thirty-meter telescope that is predicted to be built on top of Mauna Kea. This is somewhat like a revolution due to the fact that Hawaiians are going against the government in order to stand up for what they think is right. They are defying the acts of the government by standing up there to protest; each day that goes by the Hawaiians are becoming more and more passionate about their rights.
In order to solve out problem which is poverty, instead of starting a revolution the people in Hawaiʻi need to come together to solve this problem. The government in Hawaiʻi should be replaced. It should be replaced because no one takes a stand towards poverty. For example, the most being done about poverty is the Food drive and that is not through the government. Hawaiʻis poverty problem is getting worse, however, there is nothing being done about it by people who are supposed to be “making a change”. One solution that could be used is giving people who are less fortunate jobs.
Exploration, Exchanges, & Expansion
The concept that had the biggest impact to set up our Kahiau project was the creation of the WorkForce. With the creation of the workforce different classes arose; , the upper class the middle class and the lower class. With the creation of these classes arose a variety of issues such as poverty and homelessness.
Today the concept that impacts our Kahiau project is workforce; this is because within the workforce people are laid off which in the end results in a multitude of things. These events can vary from hunger all the way to homelessness in all the workforce is something that can be directly related to poverty. According to the Hawaii government files written in 2010 “37% of the state’s workforce had incomes under the Hawaii self‐sufficiency income level 15% were under the poverty level”. Overall almost half of the people in the workforce live under Hawaiʻi’s self-sufficiency level. We see these concepts impacting people in modern America and modern Hawaiʻi because of homelessness, poverty, bad health and medical care, and minimum wage.
Ways we can be prepared to handle this challenge is by everybody contributing to this problem. For example, in order to help those in need an individual could donate to a non-profit organization like the Food Bank that provide resources for people who are in need. If an individual finds themselves in a state of poverty they could seek help by applying for food stamps, shelters, or seek help from nonprofits that provide food, hygiene products, and necessities. Government policies are currently putting into motion means-tested welfare benefits to the poorest in a society where people who are unemployed benefit from food stamps, income support, and housing benefit. Minimum wages.
Colonization in the 20th CenturyThe two philosophers that greatly related to my kahiau project is Rene Descartes and John Stuart Mill. Our group’s modern kahiau issue is poverty; through these philosophers, they enforce ways to bring positive influence in the community. Rene Descartes had a famous quote emphasizing that “it is not enough to have a good mind, the main thing is to use it well”. This contributes to my project because most people are capable of helping those who are having a rough patch; however, it’s their actions that truly prove what type of people they are. On the other hand John Stuart Mill uses his quote to enforce the emotions of those living in poverty and prevent discrimination. He influences others by asserting that “Pleasure and freedom from pain, are the only things desirable as ends”. This contributes to my project because those who are in the lower class or are living in poverty can only hope for the best for the future; it’s their mindset that keeps them going.
The Two biggest Industrial Revolution results that impacted or relates to our Kahiau project the most, is; Steam engine because the engine influenced slavery. Slavery then caused later in history caused poverty which is our Kahiau project. Another Example of Industrial revolution that Influenced poverty was when the british found out what China did not have which was drugs. Then chinas community slowly crumbled and made The Globalizations most powerful empire was the British. Two factors that contributed to colonization are the agricultural revolution, and new resources. The most important factor in colonization is the agricultural revolution. This revolution was important because without the need to hunt for food and resources, it allowed colonists to settle in one area. In addition to the agricultural revolution, new resources allowed colonization because based on geography, certain nations had an advantage over other nations. For example, some nations had an abundance of coal, or steel which allowed the creation of weaponry and machinery. This allowed colonization because with new weapons, colonists had power over other nations which allowed them to gain control. Finally, this impacts my kahiau project today in Hawai’i because after the annexation, foreigners had more control over Hawai’i and, eventually this led to the loss of Native Identity and these effects are still seen today as the Hawaiian people continue to be oppressed. The issue that our group is covering is poverty and homelessness. During the Industrial Revolution, new ideas and inventions were made and caused major companies to let go of workers due to the fact that now they have machines that work 10x as fast as the average man. This issue progressed to the point that companies only need a small group of people for the jobs. Over time, since the illegal American colonization of Hawaiʻi, the people have been put into a state of oppression because we are either not educated enough or not mentally or physically stable enough for the jobs. By doing this, the Americans have taken control over Hawaiʻi to expand their economy. Which is why poverty is extremely high in Hawaiʻi. This relates to the UN sustainability goal #8 which is decent work and economic growth. The poverty in Hawaiʻi is due to the lack of work which is all because of the industrial revolution. |

ʻĀina, War, Nations and Native Identities The aspects of ʻāina that were bartered over, fought over, and used as collateral during the war to end all wars, world war II and the cold war was power; to those who were in leadership, power was an extreme factor in everything that they did. Power and land can be related back to each other because especially in our culture the land that you owned granted you power in the system. That being said pono leadership was absolutely not practiced during any of the wars especially World War II. During the ending of world war II, the Japanese armies under leadership from their superiors performed experiments on live humans. This was not only a horrible advancement in modern technology, but it was also just plain up cruel. The experiments performed were absolutely unnecessary and were clearly an act done under unethical leadership; these experiments were performed in order to give the Japanese an advantage or power in the war.
In the perspective of someone that lives in today's society, itʻs kind of hard to imagine a world without war. Without fighting almost. Iʻm sure that the conflict could have been resolved without people dying or being sent off to war, but sometimes people need to go through hard times to get to the good. Iʻm not sure whether it was good or bad because ultimately it was all a gateway for progression for the people. It gave people better understandings of their surroundings. As a result of these world wars, there have been new struggles within national and native identities. One prime example of this is the Jewish people being oppressed by the German Nazis. The jewish people are an example of this because after the war their native identity was greatly harmed. The reason for this is because in the eyes of the Jewish people being of Jewish blood was something that could get you killed rather than something to be proud of. If you think of this situation in the present day, Jewish people are still suffering today. The main example of Jewish people suffering today is because due to racial discrimination, basic things such as finding a job maybe harder. |
