From Evolution to Revolution
Reflecting on Research & What we have learned already in World History:
The reason why the hunter/gatherer and agricultural societies are different is because of sustainability. In the movie, Following the Rabbit proof fence, we see that Molly and her younger sister and cousin decide to hunt and gather for their food. As a result, its not that reliable of a source to have a constant flow of food. They are often starving of hunger and have to ration their food. On the other hand, farming would be a more reliable source because you can have a constant supply of crops. In modern society, the average amount of food a single farmer can produce is enough food for 155 people. Clearly it is more reliable and can even cause a surplus of crops.

Connecting the Dots to Hawaiʻiʻs past & Present:
It’s important to make the shift from the native version of hunter-gatherer to relying on stores and companies like matson because the land is different today then it was back then. Back then there were no buildings so the last was fruitful and filled with plenty of animals that wouldn’t bring bad diseases. Now if you want to go to a land that supplies goods you always have to drive for like 30 minutes or even take a plane. So this plays along in education because if you get a good education you can get a good job. This gives you money that can supply you with food from the stores.

Connecting the Dots to our Kahiau Project for the future:
Our kahiau topic is poverty. The land and ocean access along with our native skills contribute to our state’s poverty because if everyone were able to grow their own food, they would have one less problem adding to their struggles with poverty. Also, if we had to native skills to grow more of our own food, we could redistribute it to people or families struggling from poverty.

Impacts of Religion, Culture, Enlightenment,
& Exchanges through Expansion
The European dark ages was a time when there was no emperor so there was a lot of war going on. During that time there was a famine, a plague, and many more terrible stuff. Right now I don't think any places are in a dark age that was as bad as the European dark ages but Yemen is close. Yemen is experiencing a shortage of food and they are also dealing with Covid-19. What made the dark ages dark is that they didn’t have the technological advancements that we do now to help them with such things as a famine and a plague.

The opposite ideas of religion vs culture shifted the mindset from the dark ages to enlightenment because people started to treat other people differently. In the dark ages, the only thing people looked out for was themselves and their families. It was about surviving the longest you could. But when religion came around, the idea was that people would treat other people how they wanted to be treated. And so instead of multiple families living in different houses, it became an entire community living in a village. The way this affects our Kahiau topic, poverty, is that people helped and supported the poor. People were taught that supporting others was the right thing to do, therefore, they helped the people in need.

The events of exploration and exchanges that occurred during the period of the silk roads impacted our Kahiau issue because of the trading that happened. However, that affected the resources that we have here now. Some of the items and things that they traded off no longer have the same benefits as they did back then. Meaning, the value of certain goods have gone down tremendously or maybe even higher. This affects our topic of poverty the most because of not having a certain amount of money to buy resources that we need.

Understanding history has value and can contribute to finding solutions to some of our modern-day challenges. Understanding history is very important because in history, people may have had issues similar to what we may have today. We can learn from history as to not make similar mistakes that have been made in the past, and we can also use examples from history to help solve some problems we may be facing today. There are many things that can be learned from history that can be applied to modern-day issues. By understanding history, we can also understand how similar issues were handled by people in the past so we know what works and what doesn’t work in those situations.

Competition for Resources in a Global Society
From what we learned about WWI through the flipped lectures, WWI was not the “War to End all Wars” because the end of this “great war” did not mean the end of fighting across the globe. There were many wars that took place shortly after WW1 ended. This includes the Russian Civil war, the German Revolution, and the Greco-Turkish War but there were many more that took place across the globe. Going beyond those battles, there was also another World War that took place from 1939-1945. All this shows that the name, the “War to End all Wars” didn’t hold up because of the numerous battles and fighting that persisted after The Great War ended.

Mankind has evolved through the Agricultural/Scientific/Industrial Revolutions and then become Enlightened during the era of Enlightenment thinkers to utilize those new skills and discoveries to compete for resources in World War from the continuous gain of new knowledge, resources, and technologies. New knowledge, resources, and technologies has helped mankind to manage and grow their resources within their civilizations. Eventually, some civilizations or nations decided what they had wasn’t enough so they went out to take resources from others. With more technologies, they had eventually created tools and weapons to fight others for their land and resources to not only take land and resources from others, but to protect their own land and resources. I think these turn of events makes sense that humans used these skills to almost eliminate ourselves since it was only a matter of time before some humans decided that what they had wasn't enough and went to go take from others. This impacts my modern kahiau topic which is poverty on a global level because wars and battles are one of the main reasons we have third world countries and people who can’t support themselves. There are entire countries that are experiencing poverty as a result of wars and their resources being taken from them while the resources of other countries continue to increase.

Something that we can take away from World war is that it will never really end. WW1 was to be known as “the war to end all wars,” and as we still experience war in the present, we see how hard it is to actually “end all wars.” The event of WW1 lead to the reason why WW2 and the events of that lead to the cold war. War is an illusion to solve a problem in the present, but in reality it just pauses it for a while and a few decades later, a new conflict will pop up. We see this through both world wars. Instead of violent solutions we can agree to make compromises so no lives are lost. In Hawaii, we have a similar problem, the United states have “control” of Hawaii. But some of the decisions the government makes doesn’t align with the Hawaiians living there. So, instead of seeing trying to force their way, just come up with a compromise. The same should go for any World War.

Group Reflection - Kahiau Research Post #4
What I learned about my role in this community is that our generation is going to become the future leaders. This is important because, as we learned from history, the leader that you have, greatly affects the smallest changes to the community, to big wars and conflicts. With the gift of education that Pauahi provided me, I can make the vote best fit for the community and future and educate other people on the issues in the world. The gift of education is a very important tool to have because we can affect the people around us in a positive way. Our decision as a community are don’t just affect us, it affects the generation after us too.

What I learned from this opportunity as a child of Pauahi is to be grateful because she gave so much just to make our lives better, she didn't have to but she did which is why Iʻm truly thankful. I learned this from my parents because they always told me to be thankful for what you have because not a lot of people have what you have. This ties into my UN sustainability goal of poverty because if you see them you feel bad and you never complain. My brothers and I actually did a homeless drive where we helped those in need and it opened my eyes to realize Iʻm blessed to have what I have. Something I learned that I can utilize is advocacy because advocacy pushes your dreams and reality and thats what people need to do. Go after your dream and chase it and help those in need no matter what.
What I have learned about my own role as a pua a Pauahi and a future graduate of Kamehameha is that within my community, I have the responsibility of doing my best to do the right thing and to make a difference within my community and beyond. Given what we have learned about world history and the history of our own indigenous communities, I can use the opportunities and gifts of the education I receive as a Kamehameha student to speak out against injustices to our community, language, and culture and to raise awareness to issues regarding Hawaiʻi and even farther. Using these gifts and opportunities to raise awareness to issues within Hawaiʻi and the rest of the word, I think I can make somewhat of a difference in our world and in our community.
Something I have learned about my own role as a child of Pauahi and a future graduate is to be good and industrious within my school community as well as my own community where I reside. Given what I’ve learned this year about World History and the history of our own indigenous communities, I can best utilize the privilege of education I get from being a student at this school to contribute to goals in my community by sharing what I’ve learned with other people in my community. Just because I’m a student, doesn’t mean I can’t teach others or spread awareness about what I’ve learned in this past year. I can make connections with what we’ve learned in the lectures, books, and movies to the problems my community faces and share that with everyone . Another thing I can do to contribute to my community is use what we’ve learned from Planet 911 to make campaigns for people in my community to be a part of.
