The work/learning in this course was interesting and valuable. One of the things I found valuable was the Kahiau project and learning how to make connections. The Kahiau project had us take events in Hawaiʻi and our geographical area, and relate them through a single sustainability goal. It was an aha moment to me because it took things that I thought were distantly related, but it ended up being easily connected. I will then be able to apply this to other things to make more connections.
I think the Kahiau project is something that helps make connections between historical events and current issues we face. It brought the whole idea of making connections between the past and the present. We had all these other side projects like the iLeader and the socratic seminar which focused on connecting certain things but the Kahiau project brought everything together. I do not think I would use this experience as a graduation capstone project because like we learned about with the Rock Your World guests, it should be something you are passionate about, and I would want to do another project that I connect with more.

A common theme that can be applied to our ʻohana, communities, and lāhui when we consider Maiau Quality, Hard Work Ethic, and the kuleana of leadership is being a good role model. Role modeling is leading by example. When we lead by example, we can reach a larger audience, and inspire more people quicker, by doing instead of speaking. Role modeling and Maiau quality also go hand in hand. When leading by example, you should be doing Maiau quality work, because you wouldn’t want someone to copy the sloppy or lazy work you do. By knowing these themes, we can apply them to our lāhui.
I think the idea of self-efficacy through advocacy is something I might find valuable for the future. Self-efficacy by itself is a very useful skill, having confidence to do something is half the battle. Advocacy is also important because standing up for your beliefs and expressing concern is important. Having self-efficacy through advocacy is important because having the confidence to share your own ideas and stances is important in work settings. It will be valuable in both school and future jobs.
I feel like learning these photoshop and illustrator skills were a worthwhile use of class time. We spent a lot of time in class learning how to use these apps, and by the end we were able to learn them. Using these tools we were able to make our poster look nicer and more professional. Even though these photoshop and illustrator skills were not entirely necessary for this project, they will be in the future. Although learning the tools took a lot of time, photoshop is an important skill to have and it is better to learn it earlier than later.
