This project hasn’t taught me about the concepts of being an Action Researcher & Global Citizen. This work might connect, I just don’t see how. I found the pattern that most people don’t actually care, it’s just that they’ll put up with it until we leave. I learned about the general populace’s perspective; not caring. My early on predictions were very different from the actual result. This is due to us “having” to change our project from a donation drive to a gather recyclables. Long-term plans are okay, but if they’re too long, the group won’t focus on it and put it off, feeling as though they still have time to do it.
I'll be honest, over the course of this project, I haven't learned anything. I'll be honest with you, I've done this same type of thing two other times now, once in 9th grade 1st semester for Personal Health and once more this year for my GAP analysis project in English. The Personal Health project was just like this one, but without the blogging, and the GAP analysis one was like this, but instead of blogging, we wrote essays. So, in a way, I've been a global citizen three times now. You're welcome.

Being a global citizen, what does that mean? It means that you, first-and-foremost, are an activist for a cause that you believe impacts the world and should be improved upon. In terms of being a global citizen, I don't believe that I am, I merely believe that I am trying my best to make a difference where I can. However, due to some unforeseen circumstances, our group has decided to switch gears, and instead of doing a donation drive (since our entire grade will be doing that for the Next Step shelter) we will be going around door-to-door informing people of the harmful affects of littering, how it's better to recycle, and asking if they have recyclables they would be willing to donate (all of the proceeds will be donated to the Next Step shelter). As such, I apologize for any inconveniences this sudden change of plans may have caused. Please note that we will still be giving to Next Step shelter as planned, just in a different form. Thank you, have a nice day, and be a global citizen.
Our group was just informed that our entire class (grade) has a mandatory community service drive this year, and that all of the donations will be given to the Next Step homeless shelter. Which as you may know, was where we had intended to give our donations. Us donating to the same place isn't an issue, the issue is that most of our donations would have come from our fellow classmates, but now all of the donations are going to our school instead of our endeavors (which as I said isn't an issue, but just a disappointment that our hard work was for naught).
Another little update. We have gotten approval from the organization to donate the goods to them. Waiting on approval from school to hold an in-school drive. Planning an out-of-school community drive. That's all for now.
Our group is still working hard on getting the approvals that we need to get this project done. We've followed up with the necessary people and now we're just waiting for them to get back to us.
Over the weekend, our group managed to get texted back by one of the organizations that we want to collaborate with for this project. As for the date, we plan to do our public donation drive in March preferably at the Kailua Rec. Center. We have yet to nail down a specific date since the rec. center is apparently closed over the weekend. We are currently working on getting approval from our school to hold an in-school donation drive to gather more donations as well.
The reason for my envolvment in this project is that I want to make a difference. Whether it be for my family and friends, or for random people on the street, it doesn't really matter to me. I just want to make a difference in someone's life.
Born and raised on Hawaiʻi. Went around to three different elementary schools as a kid 'till one stuck.Currently 10th grade at KHS and beginning to look into colleges.
Enjoy spending time with family and friends, playing sports, games, and running in my free time. Involved in this project because I want to be a part of making an impact on people's lives (for the better). |
