This Kahiau project was something that helped make connections between historical and current issues we face by seeing what could have beem done differently in the past as well as applying that reflection to what we do now to try and help fix these current issues. This project would definitely be considered because of how much thought and effort that both us and our outside source gave into as well as how much of an impact we would make through both our PSAs and research. The only reason it wouldnʻt be considered would be because maybe something like this project will come along and with a better and more experienced mind I would be able to improve on what I had already done in this class.
The information that was gained through the curriculum of this Hybrid Blended environment of both Flipped Lectures and Project Based actions of learning will benefit me greatly in the future. Due to the fact that I was exposed to a World History class through the lens of Hawaiian/Indigenous Culture Based Education did help me understand both the historical methods of thinking, inventing, and protesting. I have gained the knowledge that not all fights have to be won via violence, but through KAPU ALOHA and aloha ʻāina.

Oh what class did I take in summer school? I took world history and I remember reading in one of my assignments that the UK is one of many leading countries in climate action and their political action as well as environmental mindset is leading other countries into a more sustainable world. Climate change has been an issue for some time now, right? And generations today are seeing it first hand especially since we live on an island surrounded by nature. Climate change has been a large problem for smaller more confined areas such as Hawaii and the UK; in fact being a smaller country with large amounts of people their impact on the climate is greater because it's so concentrated. They have found many solutions to this problem and this information is crucial to the rest of the world because it helps us understand how and where to stop climate change through the trials and errors of others. This also can affect us greatly because we are also one of the leading countries in renewable energy and more sustainable lifestyles. We are starting to see more wind farms and solar panels in our communities as well as more and more electric vehicles on our roads.
Maiau Quality to me looks like complete ideas, sentences, and points. Quality in general to me is to have whatever you are doing cover all bases as well as taking your time to look over what you didn’t cover so that you can go back to do something about. A Hard Work Ethic for me as a student to push beyond your limits in both your work and time management. For example, if I were to be introduced to an assignment in the middle of the week and have it due on the weekend I would either work on it bit by bit throughout the week or find a chunk of free time and work on it until I finish rather than leaving half done. A hard working student is one that learns the most effectively. A leader does have some expectations that they are responsible to have because there are certain qualities that people find to be easier to cooperate with. A leader should have Na’auao (Intelligence) to help compromise and solve problems, Ho’ohiki (Integrity) to prove that they are trustworthy and loyal, and Kōkua (Helpfulness) to help and guide others when needed.
From day 1 to now, I would say that I went from a 2 to a 4 in my improvement of quality of work about history. I don’t like being the worst or saying the best because then people expect too much out of me, but if I feel that I’m up there I’ll say something. I’m still a little lost when it comes to including dates in my writings, but I’m getting better as we go along. From the first day to now I would say that my work on digital applications went from a 2 to a 5. When working with photoshop and illustrator, I am more comfortable with messing up and trying again to eventually find a solution to what I am trying to do. I am obviously not the best at it, but I hope to get better as time goes on. I would say that I went from a 2 to a 3. I only say this because I feel that I already was alright at self-organization and independence, but in the beginning of the course it was a lot to keep up with. From the beginning of the course I would say that now I have the experience of “frontloading”, as my teachers called it, and now I am more prepared for those kind of situations. I feel that I am making better connections with historical events and current events. Whatever historical or current events we are looking at, Hawaii must have some sort of link to it, so I like to look at it like “What are we trying to do about?” and “What is causing it in Hawaii?”. I think that some parts of the work and learning are interesting, but all of it is valuable. I would agree that it does add to my knowledge base, but all of this information I’m getting might not all stick. Something that I feel that is valuable would be how we study geography and place names. Knowing where places are, we are able to build a connection to what we are learning about and how where they are located affect them. An “Ahaa!” moment I had lately was when we were introduced to Neocolonialism and how its like ruling an empire or something indirectly. In the FlipGrid for 1B I said that the most important skill to have right now is time management and I would like to add that I have been improving throughout this course with getting my homework done on time and not having all stack up on each other. In the Padlet I said that I would improve on identifying core values which I have. I noticed that I’ve been getting better at finding and identifying core values within the lesson we have been doing recently (religion). Thus far I would like to say that Ms Jess and Ms Sierra had been helpful in understanding the UDHR and Sustainability Goals with their examples of advocacy. They have given many examples and ways we might be able to advocate for our own issues. Most of the examples that they gave were either art related or having to do with using your passion to advocate towards what you believe in. One example could be one of the more recent guest speakers, Lee, they were amazing at drawing and digital art. Their art spoke without words and was able to send messages without speaking. What we still need to accomplish is contact with the non-profit organizations we listed down. We could use more help with due dates and when we should be getting things done because we haven’t worked on it in a while. In class something that could support me to achieve my goals would be to have more face to face learning time with our groups because if we are together in person communication would be way more effective and we would be able to organize our time way better. We could also slow down a little more during teacher lectures because it's hard to keep up if we only have a few seconds to jot down notes. I would like to say that I would find it valuable in my future because if I have that belief that we will succeed in supporting a cause that can be proven to be a very valuable skill in a workplace which could benefit me with bigger paychecks and higher management jobs. I believe that this skill requires vision to see what you specifically want to see be done.
My experience was great. From selecting my leaders to putting their pictures together in my poster, I was able to learn that some leaders had similar experiences pertaining to their leadership and monarchy. I really enjoyed playing around with both Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator because I was able to gain the knowledge and skill to mash other pieces of art and meaning to create my own personal interpretation of each picture. I could see myself using these applications in the future for other school projects. For example, if I needed a picture for slides or if I needed a cool and creative background I could just turn to Photoshop and Illustrator to help me out. I chose Lili’u because of her experience as Queen and how she showed humility and loyalty for her people during their time of heartache. She showed what I look for in a leader as well as exemplified what I strive to be as a leader. Queen Elizabeth was similar because she put her people first as well and defended them in their time of need. What I learned about her that was interesting was that she was an advocate for the arts in her time and that she was all for expanding creativity. An interesting thing about Lili’uokalani that I learned was that before she was queen she got sort of a test run first when Kalakaua left on his trip and she was faced with a serious epidemic which she was able to overcome. I felt that this showed her people that she was a capable leader.
