The Kahiau Project is something that helps make connections between historical events and the current issues we face. Because of the Kahiau Project, I was able to research more in-depth about many issues, but specifically, the UN sustainability goal of climate action. Because of this experience, I was able to make connections of what started climate change, and how we can make preventative measures to take climate action. I would use this experience as a graduation capstone project because this new knowledge and work I put in shouldn’t be a one-and-done deal. If it is worked on and refined more, I know that these projects can be better. In this Hybrid Blended Environment of Flipped Lectures and Project Based actions, I have been able to learn and understand world history through a Hawaiian/Indigenous Culture Based Education lens. Using our Hawaiian cultural understanding of aloha ‘āina, ʻike kūpuna, mālama, and kuleana, I have been able to make connections on these Hawaiian understandings to historical events. There were many things that we learned that related to these Hawaiian understandings like how the concept of ʻāina (geography, land, resources, people) can help build civilizations and empires. Humanity overtime grew and expanded their knowledge. When we study history about our ancestors, we can make connections to the present, and learn from their mistakes, so that the future will a better one. Citations

Summary People all across Scotland has recognized the need for climate action. This article shows many ways that people recognized that can help take climate action. Stores are encouraged to sell fruits and vegetables, and other perishable items to make sure people only buy what they need. They make sure that all public transport vehicles like buses, police cars, etc. have zero tailpipe emissions that contribute to Co2 emissions. According to The Scottish government's Net Zero Secretary Michael Matheson said, “The responsibility for delivering this transformation, and delivering it in a way that is fair and just for everyone, falls to all of us - it must be a shared, national endeavour, with people at its heart” (BBC News, 2021). Everyone has a responsibility to share this commitment because it pertains to everyone. If we want to be able to live healthier lives without worrying about global warming, we have to take action, and that’s what people from Scotland are doing.
Connection/Analysis This article relates to the theme of advocating for change because people in Scotland realized the need for climate change in Scotland and the world. The concept of change is a big term and a ot of people know about the need for change, but not everyone is actually putting in effort for change. When people think of taking action and change, they think of having to flip their lives around, when you could just substitute things in your daily life to make your living style more renewable. The picture in the article shows “young people that have staged a series of protests demanding more action on climate change” (BBC News, 2021a). Many people have taken it upon themselves to advocate change in a major way. Because of people like them that have a clarion call for action, even more people know about the need for climate action. Everyone leads busy lives but small changes into your life will help the overall process of climate action. There are many simple things that we can do like recycle, or spread awareness on social media because many are already going on social media. The output of Co2 is the issue and cars emit a lot of Co2, so we can minimize the emission of our personal cars by taking public transportation. Cars emit a lot of Co2, but planes have a larger emission rate, so decreasing the amount of air travel will help benefit the atmosphere. Everyone around the world is facing issues that somehow align with climate change and we need to change for it to get better. Hawaii has faced a lot of consequences because of us being an island nation, such as beach erosion, pollution, and sea levels rising. If we want our ʻāina to be beautiful for our future generations, we need to take climate action seriously, and make a change. Citations

BBC News; BBC News. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-57595574 Some common themes that can be applied when we consider Maiau Quality, a hard work ethic, and the kuleana of leadership to our ‘ohana, communities, and lāhui are having a strong sense of character and good leadership skills because these fundamentals make the base of person and leader. If we have a strong sense of character, which is being kind, empathetic, and understanding, along with good leadership skills, we can be better leaders which is important to carry the kuleana of our ʻohana, communities, and lāhui. Kuleana – to reshape the social, economic, political and culture character of Hawaiʻi. (Template] OSC PRINT -Leadership Quality Chart - Checklist.pdf, 2021) Taking kuleana is a common theme that is applied with maiau quality, a hard work ethic, and leadership to our ʻohana, communities, and lāhui. Hawaiians had many leadership traits that they found important, but since young, everyone learned the meaning of kuleana. Everyone worked around the house doing chores, working in the loʻi, etc. so kuleana is the most basic, yet fundamental thing to a leader. Citations

This is a good skill to have in order to be able to advocate in what you believe in. Guest speaker, Sanah Jivani told her life-story and how she persevered through hard times. She said, “The only thing anyone should change about themselves is the way they think about themselves.” This stuck with me and I think that if I advocate, I might also be able to change someone’s life in an unexpected way, like how hearing Sanah’s story did for me. I will definitely use this skill in the future because I find it important to advocate for what you believe in. I know that I will advocate for the revival of the Hawaiian language and culture in the future because it is dying out. Citation

I learned many things and struggled on many more things, but it was a good experience. I said that I would be able to apply the things I learned to later years and I agree. I will use Photoshop and Illustrator and the skills I learned in these apps for future projects, and I think that that is helpful. If I use the skills I learned in this class in he future, I will know that what I did was not for naught. My iLeader Project was a tough journey, but I finished, and it's rewarding to see it all come together. Citations
