Colonization has set up and impacted my Kahiau project topic of ocean pollution as we see it globally in various ways. Through this process, networks of ideas, inventions, and lifestyles have been engendered. Many of these effects such as the rise of industries worldwide have and still are contributing to ocean pollution and, thus, hurt our modern efforts to meet these challenges. However, there are some effects of colonization such as the invention of various technology that aid in cleansing and preserving our oceans. Overall, while colonization lead to many negative things that contribute to ocean pollution, it has also lead to such inventions that help us restore oceans and marine life. Imperialism played and continues to play a role in changing our understanding of certain events in history. Many of these events have been recorded and documented in a bias manner that expresses partiality towards a side. Typically, the "winners" of those occurrences are the ones who write their history, including the details they want to consider while emitting those they donʻt. An example of this can be found after WW1 when the "winners" (France, Britain, Russia, etc.) wrote the history of the war in their favor while scapegoating the Germans as the so-called "antagonists." Moreover, in relation to Hawaiʻi, this concept deters us from navigating for solutions to solve the problems here in Hawaiʻi because it misleads people in believing prejudice information which, thus, prevents them from understanding all facets of the issues and from making accurate assessments. Succinctly, imperialism promoted/promotes bias in historical documents/records which caused people from knowing the true details of events and resulted in the making of false conceptions. References

The Industrial age & the revolutions that occurred because of it set up/impact my Kahiau Project of ocean pollution in various ways. Because of the industrial age, new technology and modernizations have occurred accordingly. Most notable of these modernizations were infrastructure, buildings, factories, and machines. Consequently, these developments have had and continue to have a negative effect to oceans worldwide. Buildings and factories emitting chemical waste/runoff and pollutants are ending up in oceans along with plastics and debris from manufacturing companies, stores, and users. As you can see, many developments and networks that were derived from the events of the industrial age have had and continue to have devastating effect towards marine life. Understanding these events in history as well as our cultural history through language, culture, and activism in the community plays a significant role in helping us to navigate solutions to the main problems here in Hawaiʻi. By getting to know the details of historical events and traditions, we naturally expand our knowledge and perception on society and the issues within it. This allows us to be able to approach those issues in a creative yet effective way that will benefit and not harm communities. For example, by getting to know the Hawaiian culture, you will be able to understand the conflict we Hawaiians are in with developers and, thus, can think of ideas to bring about justice and benefits to both parties. Overall, history along with language, culture, and activism can help us tremendously to solve problems like the problems here in Hawaiʻi. References

Art is an inspiring form of communication that can be used to showcase and highlight social concerns in history and modern society. There are many features in art that all fuse together to tell a story or convey a message to viewers. In the picture to the left, I used the spine titles of books to create an interesting poem. This is just one of the unique ways you can use art to spread a message, whether your message relates to historical or modern concerns. For example, you can make a film or digital art and share it across social media to spread awareness of your issue. Thus, art is such a creative form of communication that allows you to be creative in sharing your point across especially when it comes to social concerns. In the picture to the left, I created a poem in regards to my Kahiau project of ocean pollution. In the poem, I express this issue and include the negative effects we humans have imposed on marine life. In addition, I state the importance of marine ecosystems to the world and convey how we humans depend on them for our survival. However, we are harming the health of marine life everyday through pollution, in which I asserted in my poem. Overall, this art I created is meant to spread awareness towards ocean pollution and how we must address this issue in order to restore the life we so depend on. References Caulfield, C. One of the most important connections between these two topics is that current event advocacy is exercised under the basis of a particular time in world history. For example, the Black Lives Matter movement is an epitome of this connection because, without slavery and oppression of the black community, this movement would never exist. Another example is that of the advocacy of equality and how certain events in history unjustly structured societies around the world and have engendered this issue of inequality. As you can see, current event advocacy addresses an issue that was brought about in a particular period in history. The Rock Your World Curriculum was a very insightful program that gave me a better understanding of the importance of media advocacy when it comes to addressing global issues. The most impactful idea I gained from this was that you can be as creative as you want as long as you have a strong mission statement with clear, thought-provoking ideas that are clearly manifested in your project. This is the most important thing I learned because it helped me to open up to the different genres of media and helped me to realize the various opportunities my group and I can do for our project. It also helped me to stress on developing concrete ideas and statements that will inspire and galvanize our audience. Overall, the Rock Your World Curriculum opened my eyes to the variety of genres for our project and taught me the important elements when it comes to media advocacy. References

The events of the Silk Road, Exploration, Expansion & Enlightenment period directly impact my UN goal of life below water and my Kahiau project on ocean pollution. The transfer of ideas and foreign technology around the world lead to the development of more industries and factories around the world. This relates to ocean pollution because the chemical discharges, illegal dumping, raw sewage runoffs, and acidulation from these infrastructure pollute bodies of water and harm marine life. For example, with the transfer of resources such as metal and iron, more factories were built to obtain these fine resources. Hence, with these factories came chemicals and pollutants that ended up in the worldʻs oceans. In this way, although the events in this period played an important role for empires to obtain foreign resources, they polluted and harmed many bodies of water and marine ecosystems. Another example of how these events negatively impacted life below water is from the oil-run ships that traveled across the sea to get to foreign land. The negative effects of these ships were that they essentially released tons of toxic oils into the oceans, ultimately harming marine life. Overall, with the accumulation of pollutants from the factories and chemical emitting inventions during this period, much of the worldʻs oceans have been significantly impaired. References
