The skills that I learned this year were valuable and interesting, this is because we got to learn about Photoshop and Illustrator. We did this during our ILeader projects where we had to make a poster surrounding our chosen Hawaiian and world leaders. Admittedly I already kind of knew how to use Photoshop and Illustrator. The ILeader unit reopened my interest in using those tools and had even taught me a few tricks that I hadnʻt known previously. Those two things were important along with the PEEL paragraphs. I’m sure that I can use my knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator when doing projects for other classes and I can use the PEEL format in essays and arguments to make them sound stronger. Another valuable thing that we learned about this year was about WWI and WWII. These things are important to learn because it is important that those events of the past do not become our future. And in order to ensure that we must look into our past and learn about what caused those events.
The most interesting topic that we learned about this year was easily WWII. For a while now I’ve been pretty interested in reading up about revolutions and war, especially WWII, so seeing that in class was really nice. Though it does break my heart sometimes, reading about the atrocities of mankind, it’s also kind of amazing to see the good that came from it, if you can even call it good. Because on one hand you see the war crimes and the concentration camps and the hatred. But on the other hand you see the kindness of human beings in the form of refuge and youʻll see people, such as Oskar Schindler, a person that we learned about in our WWII unit, give away everything that they worked so hard for for the sake of saving others. Granted, it shouldn't have even gotten to the point where people needed that help in the first place, it is nice to see the stories of the good side of humanity. Our Kahiau project connected the skills with history and modern day issues. Our SDG, or sustainable development goal, is health and wellbeing through quality education. This connects to history because education is the foundation for each generation. More likely than not people believe in what they are taught, especially as kids. And back in the days, and sometimes even now, people, kids are taught that their race is the superior race. Or their country is the superior country and that nothing else matters, which bred a lot of hatred and resentment towards others. Take Germany for example, kids there were taught that the Jews suck and that they were nothing more than trash beneath the German kids’ feet. Even the adults, they were told that itʻs all the Jews fault they were suffering so badly after WWI, and they believed it. And that right there is a breeding ground for hatred, and soon enough people started dying. Jews mostly, and the Polish, and basically everyone in Germany who was not German. And then next thing you know war is at your front door and thereʻs nothing you can do to stop it from barging into your life, and then bam! Starvation, death, and disease. All of which do advocate for good health and wellbeing. Akana, H. 2022, April, 16. FL 14 The Global Depression & WWII. Steven Spielberg, John Williams, John Williams & John Neufeld.
