The skills and content that was taught to us this year was very valuable and interesting. It was valuable and interesting because throughout the 4 quarters, Kumu Akana taught us multiple methods to improve our notetaking and summarizing skills to help us better understand what we were learning. For example, the P.E.E.L sequence. PEEL is a faster way to write a paragraph using all your research and evidence. The paragraph iʻm writing right now showʻs that the PEEL method is valuable to me. The PEEL method is definitely one of the skills I would use in another class because it helps with summarization just like how we did in the fliplectures, when we had to use PEEL to summarize what we learned that week. Another skill I learned is how to use photoshop. During this class we had to use photoshop to combine and shape our Hawaiian leaders into a poster with a nice background and character traits, with a quote from the Hawaiian leader that you choose. I can use photoshop in digital photography to edit my photos. These skills are what made this class easier and I would use them again.
Some interesting topics that connected to our Kahiau project was Ghandi, and some of our leaders. For example, Gandhi was like our SDG reduce inequality. Ghandi is similar because he would fight for the freedom of his people to ensure they could get there trades back. This is similar because reduce inequalities is something people around the world is fighting for similar to Ghandi. Our leaders are similar to our SDG reduce inequalities because they fought for the rights to keep their colony/empire alive so they could advance and evolve. All these people are similar to our SDG because they all fight for their rights. This shows that the history of leaders connects to problems that are happening today in the world.
