Geography Resources and Leaders
Jason Cheers: Leadership character traits can totally affect the value system of a group of people. This shows in people like Kumu Hina, whoʻs traits of dignity and drive for a better future for our people really is shown in the people she inspires (aka Us). She says, “When I advocate for the Native Hawaiian community—for our native rights, whether it be gathering rights or rights to practice our language and culture—I am by default advocating for gender equity and gender expression in a manner that is consistent with our culture.” This shows that when advocating for our people, she wants us to have our own voices be heard in order to get our rights. Her drive for this goal is the kind of thing that fuels the Hawaiian people to move forward as a nation. Having traits like these ones in Kumu Hina allows people to be inspired and to become stronger.

Makia Kukahiko: in the middle ages resources/ʻāina could and most definitely be leveraged by how well a leader ruled over his people. I also strongly believe that this can be impacted by Leadership traits. Resources would be largely affected by leadership and this is because if you have a good leader that listens to his people and protects them well, technologies will advance and new things will be discovered. An example of these technological break throughs is the printing press created by Johannes Gutenburg. The printing press at is time was one of the most important inventions ever. It allowed ideas, technology, and word to spread quickly and accurately. This is what helped Europe advance so much. In turn though a lot more resources would be used to make new things resulting in more resource consumption. Now say a bad leader to were not protect his people and not listen to his people. His empire could collapse and no technological advancements will happen. Resulting in less resource consumption. So as you can see how resources can be leveraged by how well a leader leads his people and how a leaders traits can largely affect this.

Justen Biho: Geography can be important to others because people can use their own land to their advantage. Asia had the richest and most voluptuous country of all, so most of their riches came from the resources they had. They also have different control groups starting at the top would be the Emperor, then government officials, to merchants, and then to peasants. Their land can impact how they treat each other because let's say you are a peasant and worked your whole life, but there was someone else who was royalty they would probably treat you badly or look at you as a lower subject. With these resources they have because of all the land they have they were able to raise many armies, cities, and farms across the country.

Evolution to Revolution
Makia Kukahiko: I would say yes one society's value system can impact another society. I think so because just like in the French Revolution note taker. In the French Revolution note taker, the French people had seen the American Revolution and it inspired them to do the same. This could also be said about the silk road flipped lecture. In the silk road flipped lecture people began trading on a trade route and a lot of countries joined in. They traded for things that could not be obtained where they lived. The silk road also helped bring in income and was a good source of money. In many cases a country's economy was largely affected by the silk roads. The silk roads also gave a lot of power to nomadic tribes. One society's value systems can and most definitely has affected other societies.

Jason Cheers: In more obvious examples like the Spanish conquistadors completely taking over and massacring the army of Incas in Peru because of the amount of gold they built their nation upon, it shows how greed and power can drive people to extremes to get what they want. The Spanish had killed 7,000 Incas without losing a single life on their side. And all of this was to steal and take their gold. Things like this happened all throughout human history, with the native people usually always falling victim to European colonizers and conquerors. This shows how much the concept of having more of anything deemed valuable leads to power and wealth among people. In the conquistador’s case this was very extreme and kind of a really bad example of the superiority complex of the Europeans.
Another example of why one society or nation would want to overpower or control another would be for religious reasons. Such as following the idea that one group is better than the other. This can be shown in the movie “Kingdom of Heaven” when Christians thought that the Muslims were below them just because of their religious faith, which is basically almost the same as Christianity. This is important to know because if we can’t all accept one another and discriminate just based on someone else’s beliefs, humanity will never grow forward as one people. Because even if we all seem separated, we all live on one planet together. This is why religious conflicts like this should not be happening today. |
Justen Biho: A leader can make many differences in control of one society over another. Well that is because if they ruled over different societies from different places then the rules would probably be adjusted to the leaders own society rules. While others might rebuttal and fight against their new laws and rules they have to follow. When it comes to learning about new rules we have to follow, it will be hard at first. Society as it is now around the world we are all different nations and had our own rules to follow. You can relate society to history because back in history from today we had different events, laws, and celebrations from now.
What might shape a leader's decision making is the balance of reason and of emotion so that they can compare it to themselves and to others. Leaders are the definition of someone who can make decisions for others to follow. So when it comes to a leader we can follow, trust, or even listen to, we have to make sure they are decisive at any moment. Next time you pick your own leader make sure they are very decisive in their life. Make sure they also make decisions around others too, not just about him/her own. |

Enlightenment, Revolution & itʻs Impacts to Modern Society
Makia Kukahiko:
The industrial age was an age of advancement, an age of machines. This was a time when factories and overworking but underpaying was common practice. Large quantities of things were created for cheap labor. This made the government rely more heavily on the owners of these factories. Which made the government a capitalist. Many people were mistreated in this time as labor was made cheap so that the profits were as high as possible. This created a huge gap between owner and worker. Karl Marx wasn’t the first to realize this but he was the first to enlighten the people being exploited by this system. The working class. His thoughts/ideas on overworking and putting a gap in between workers and owners changed how people saw things. |
Specifically the workers as they were the ones being exploited by this system. The workers were obviously upset. Working conditions were poor, they had no basic rights, and on top of that they weren’t allowed to universally vote. They were living under capitalism. Which wasn’t good for anyone especially for the workers as they were overworked and underpaid. Karl Marx noticed the gap between worker and owner and spread the word to the working class. This later led to the workers uprising against these inequalities. Soon after the working people overthrew the capitalist system. Even though Karl Marx was one person, he brought attention to how unfair the capitalist system really impacted the industrial age. His ideas ultimately led to the overthrow of capitalism and the working class finally had justice.
