Colonization pretty much goes hand in hand with environmental changes after the area has been colonized. Ocean pollution definitely becomes more of a problem after an area has been colonized because waste is created in those places and the runoff and sewage form this waste goes into the ocean causing a lot of polluted waters. Many places including here are used for extracting valuable things for profit. The leftover waste is dumped into the same place since of course they wouldnʻt want to bring the waste back to where they are. In the end colonization has only hurt our oceans even in modern times. More people coming to live in Hawaiʻi will cause more production of products which causes waste. Many of the waste will end up in our oceans. People need to make profit at the end of the day which is why waste is created. Something I can take away from imperialism is that itʻs not asked for. Imperialism caused our culture to be taken away from us for a period of time which none of us wanted. Not only that but they caused harm to the land and ocean. In our culture, we are very against the idea of harming the land for selfish gain. We were taught that if the land and ocean takes care of you, you take care of it back. If anything this should make our will to change stronger. When we look back at history we can see how poorly our oceans were being treated and they still are being treated badly to this day. Which is why we need to change for the better.

CargoTrans. https://cargotransinc.com/2018/02/20/ever-wonder-happens-thousands-containers-fall-off-ships-every-year/ The silk road was created for the purpose of exchanging resources as well as culture. As we've learned in previous classes, the exchange of culture and good was very important to the growth of society. This contributes to what we've learned about globalization. Staying social and learning helped us grow as a society. In a way this could relate to life below water. Trade today has affected our oceans. Shipping containers fall into our ocean creating a lot of ocean waste. Around 1,582 shipping containers are lost each year to be exact. And what's even worse is most containers sink to the ocean floor meaning it would be harder to retrieve them. Greenpeace. (2019). Preventing Plastic Pollution. Greenpeace USA. https://www.greenpeace.org/usa/oceans/preventing-plastic-pollution/Although trade has benefited many parts of our world, there is a lot of harm the came to our environment , including our oceans. Like i've said before a lot of waste comes from trading. A lot of that trade ends up in the ocean. Our Kahiua Project discusses waste that ends up in the ocean. What we want to do is clean our oceans as well as keeping waste from ending up in our oceans. Things we can do to prevent waste is conserving water, reduce pollutant usage, and reduce usage of items that may harm our oceans like plastics.
